I was in Barcelona last summer and they were showing old (and I mean baggy shorts and tucked in shirts old) games on TV for the lead up to a Barca vs Someone game. And you'll notice that every time there was a collision or a violent tackle, players didn't hit the ground already preparing to complain to the ref. They got up and chased after the ball. If it was really bad, then their teammates would rush over to check on them, not get in the ref's face. That is real sportsmanship.Cartographer said:Football is a sport where penniless, working class fools pay extortionate amounts of money to watch millionaire cry-babies run around a field and pretend to get hurt. Ugh... I don't regret buying these shirts because they are generally quite comfortable and I need them as I live in a humid ass country, but no fucking way are they worth a 100 bucks.Parasondox said:You see how much a shirt cost? Be fair. This one has nothing to do with Britain and it's own stable of hideously overpaid prima donnas. This is the French buying a Brazilian from the Spanish with Qatari money (if I've got my facts straight).Lil devils x said:Imagine if they spent all that money going to sports on healthcare. Brits could actually afford to see a Dentist! XD
Just like with politics and religion, if "your" team does it, you must agree and shall not question unless it goes wrong. Follow blindly and keep giving them money when you get nothing much back. As I said before, this is fantasy football for the mega rich. Will ticket prices stay the same? No. Expect an increase. An insane amount. Will it be cheaper on TV? Well have you met Sky Sports before?Bobular said:I can't believe that people like my Dad and uncles defend these kinds of payment, saying that its entertainment so that makes it OK.
Its things like this that should really piss off the poor (I know it pisses me off), there are people out there with nothing, sleeping on the streets living off handouts and the rich are able to pay more money than most people will ever see in their life times to build a giant stadium and watch someone kick a ball from one side of it to the other. We can't build houses due to planning restrictions but the rich can build an entire complex dedicated to one sport that would easily fit in hundreds if not thousands of families.
Its all just a way for the rich to get richer whilst having bragging rights over other rich people and I only hope that the rich people in question who let these sporting payments get so stupidly high squander away all their money and die alone and forgotten in a ditch somewhere. Unfortunately life isn't just like that. I don't see why anyone should care about them as they clearly care nothing for anything other than their own stupid entertainment.
I'm not having a go at all sports owner, I've seen some off the lesser leagues and seen that they actually care about the players, the fans and the sport, its the insanely rich ones who own the top clubs that are the really problem.
I think they did try to propose a salary cap and transfer cap in Europe but that idea was shut down straight down. Heck you hear about clubs going into administration and almost being killing off every year, due to lack of income, funding or poor management and ownership but this big deal spits in the face of that. We were so close to losing Rangers at one point and that's one of Scotlands top teams.Guffe said:Yeah it's become insane in the last years or so.
The biggest purchase for a player went up steadily by 10mil every season except for now when it suddenly doubled.
I think there should be a FIFA/UEFA clause saying something like max you can buy a player for would be like 20mil and then some sort of wage/contract/sponsor clauses. That way not everyone could own a team, but buying players would become harder, as many more who come from cities with PremierLeague or Championship teams (in England, same for teams in higher divisions in other leagues) in them, would actually stay at their boyhood clubs and try and make that bigger, in stead of having the big clubs come in and offer huge sums for a prodigy at a young age that the clubs just can't ignore.
How the hell this would be implemented I have no idea.
I have no memory of that to be honest (salary cap).Parasondox said:I think they did try to propose a salary cap and transfer cap in Europe but that idea was shut down straight down. Each club deserves that one star that gives the fans something to look forward too each season and not be taken by a richer club come January.
Give it a few more seasons and we will see a ?300 million pound transfer. I'll be surprised if it does happen January.
Relax. They said the same thing about Ronaldo (original) and Ronaldinho, Pele and Maradona. There will be another top duo after them, don't worry. Maybe not straight away but not too far off.Guffe said:Changing the subject from the transfer money... When will we see a player as good as Messi or Ronaldo again? I mean they are two of the biggest players ever in this sport, and for football fans to have two of the greatest players alive and playing at the same time is something insane. I don't think people will understand this until they actually stop playing. And I doubt there will be in 10 years anyone at their level...
I think the difference this time is, how will the sport evolve?Parasondox said:Relax. They said the same thing about Ronaldo (original) and Ronaldinho, Pele and Maradona. That's true. South America is a hot spot for big teams in Europe trying to create the next new international star player... and then they come came when near retirement.DaCosta said:LOLParasondox said:Each club deserves that one star that gives the fans something to look forward too each season and not be taken by a richer club come January.
Spoken just like an european.
I'm brazilian. At the end of the season all the small team's good players go the big teams, and all the big team's good players go to Europe. Next year it's a brand new team.
It depends. If they still have money and are ready to settle down they'll come back to Brazil, where they'll be paid less but be confortable, if they spent their money as fast as they made it they'll go to some club in Eastern Europe, Middle East or Asia, that's looking for a big name and willing to throw a fair amount of money to get it.Parasondox said:That's true.
