Fairy RPG Aims to Be Epic Fantasy Via XBLA/PSN

A new RPG is striving to create a full-fledged fairy tale, and it's coming to XBLA, PSN, and PC.

Fairy tales rarely get any love from the videogame industry, probably because they're not considered exciting enough to hold gamers' attention. Some new screenshots have surfaced for an upcoming RPG, Faery: Legends of Avalon, that clearly wants to prove such stories are thrilling enough to get their own game. However, what's really interesting is that this is a full-fledged, 3D RPG that is going to be released for XBLA, PSN, and PC.

The plot of the game has players take on the role of either an elf or a fairy who is trying to figure out why the world of Avalon is dying. From the sound of things, popular mythology and legends will be regular parts of the game's story, including a World Tree and a Flying Dutchman ghost ship.

The screenshots look pretty impressive for an XBLA/PSN title, with a ton of different environments and &mdash apparently &mdash featuring flying sequences. Accordingly, the game will feature turn-based combat and, "the player will customize his avatar thanks to a unique system changing not only the whole look of the character in every detail, but also its spells and special abilities."

Faery: Legends of Avalon is currently being worked on by Spiders, a French developer, and will be published by <a href=http://www.focus-home.com/index.php?rub=news&id=104>Focus Home Interactive. The game was apparently announced about a month ago, but has largely gone unnoticed until now, which is surprising since it sounds like a pretty epic RPG experience that is only going to be sold as a downloadable title. It certainly seems promising, but it'll probably be a while before we can actually deliver a verdict, since a release date has yet to be announced.

Huh, that's actually pretty cool. I like RPGs in general and have really been hoping for some meatier games on XBLA. Hopefully this turns out to be a good title, although even if it's just ok I may still pick it up.

I will cop to having at one time or another rolled an elf, but actually playing as a fairy? I'd really like to see how they plan on convincing guys to do that.

That name makes me wonder just what they were thinking when they called their studio "Spiders". And then chuckle, because the mental image of spiders developing fairy tale video games is rather amusing.

Looks very impressive for a XBLA/PSN game. We're really starting to get some very substantial games recently from arcade, hell, Deathspank could almost be a AAA game. Which is great because I believe they're one of the few places left for true creativity in the games industry. If we can get a game as imaginative as Limbo or as intelligent as Braid or as funny as Deathspank with a high end budget on the marketplace...Well, I'd be a happy little gamer.

I hope this is more a Grim fairy tale rather than the cute cuddly type. The fairies activate my gag reflex so I'm guessing not.

Oh I'll have to keep a look out to for this game.

Hopefully the PC version will be on Steam. Otherwise I guess it's PSN version for me.

Yup, elf for me.

Can't stand fairy or pixies...insane little bastards. They are nothing but FULL nightmare fuel.

That's all nice and dandy, but if the fairy's wear boots it will be amazing, and you got to believe me.

I don't think they realise faery's are diifernt to fairy's.
While fairy's are pure and good faery's are little bastards with sharp teeth who kill people...
But thats just me ranting on about stuff that doesn't matter.
OT: This seems to have a decent potential, if it's any good i'll get it on PSN.

This looks like a pretty interesting game and the concept sounds a bit unique. I will most likely play as an Elf first and a Fairy for a second play through. Hopefully, it will be a good game.

I'm hoping this will have a darker take on fairy tales rather then the cute and fluffy version. I'll be looking out for it on PSN.
I must say that is the strangest spelling of "fairy" I've ever seen. Fairy? Fine. Faerie? Sure. But faery? Um, no.
