Throw Up the Space Horns in the New Iron Maiden Flash Game

Strap yourself in for The Final Frontier [http://thefinalfrontiergame.com/], the new Iron Maiden Flash game that gives players a chance to save the latest and greatest Iron Maiden tour from pirates - in space!

The amusing thing about video [http://www.ironmaiden.com/] for the first song off the band's new album, a goofy, action-packed adventure in space, loaded with CGI, blazing lasers, explosions and of course Eddie, the grinning Iron Maiden mascot.

So why not a videogame to go along with it? The Final Frontier isn't exactly Freespace 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Freespace-2-Pc/dp/B00002EPYV/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1281032466&sr=1-1] but it is actually a fairly impressive endeavor for a Flash game, with five levels, multiple kinds of power-ups, bonus content for anyone patient enough to unlock it and of course a suitably cheesy story to give the whole thing purpose: While on its latest intergalactic tour, the Iron Maiden spaceship was attacked by space pirates! The band managed to escape but its equipment was scattered all over the solar system and now it's up to you, the Iron Maiden space-roadie, to track it all down and save the day!

It's not likely to win any awards for writing, but it is fun to play in an old-school space shooter kind of way. And there's more to come: FEARnet [http://www.fearnet.com/news/b19801_iron_maiden_launch_final_frontier.html] says that the game's "sequel," Mission II: Rescue and Revenge, will be included with the deluxe "Mission Edition" of The Final Frontier, which is due to come out August 17.

Now I want to see an Iron Madden game.

Seriously though Iron Maiden is my favorite metal band of all time. Only few can put on a better show: Genesis (back when Peter Gabriel was with them) and Tom Waits.

I have a dream. In that dream, I play as Eddie as he traverses through the various album covers, from axe murderer to space alien in a full and amazing horror style game on PS360. Until then, the various Maiden flash games will have to do.
And the video for The Final Frontier single is amazingly cheesy... cheesily amazing? It's a perfect B-space horror, condensed into a music video.

I actually purchased Ed Hunter.....basically $50 for 2 greatest hit disks and a downright hideous rail shooter, bet it is a collectors item now. Maiden may be the greatest metal band evar but they need to stay the hell away from video game development.

The very best use of Maiden songs in a game ever was in Carmageddon 2.

You're going to kick yourself when I inform you why what you just typed is stupid: Your remarks are clearly referencing what was on the other end of the link for Freespace 2, which Andy linked to in the sentence "The Final Frontier isn't exactly Freespace 2..." - that link goes to the Amazon page for a classic space shooter game that came out in 1999, which is widely regarded by fans of the genre as the best space shooter game of all time, forever. It has no affiliation to Iron Maiden's new flash game The Final Frontier.

If you'd actually like to purchase Freespace 2, which is excellent and has a vibrant mod community who have essentially rebuilt the game completely for modern computers in such a fashion that it now looks like a game that might have been released last year instead of over a decade ago, you should really go to Good Old Games [http://www.gog.com/en/frontpage/] where it's on sale for a paltry $6. Alternately you could go play the flash game the article is about for free [http://thefinalfrontiergame.com/].
