Activision Won't Interfere in Infinity Ward Recovery

Activision Worldwide Studios boss Dave Stohl says that publisher is going to let Infinity Ward rebuild in its own way, without any outside meddling.

Earlier this year, Infinity Ward was the center of controversy as studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella, were fired [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/98761-Rumor-Security-Locks-Down-Infinity-Ward-Ousts-Studio-Head-UPDATE] on charges of insubordination. In the following weeks, dozens of staff left the developer, with many finding a new home at West and Zampella's new EA backed studio, Respawn.

Some sources suggested [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100060-Insider-Infinity-Ward-Dead-and-Will-Continue-to-Crumble] that Infinity Ward was for all intents and purposes dead, but Stohl says that he is confident the developer will "rise from the ashes." He says that the Activision plans to take a hands-off approach with the studio as it gets back to strength, offering support, but not interfering. "We want Infinity Ward to be Infinity Ward," he said. "It's a very specific culture." Stohl adds that he won't pretend that the studio didn't lose good people, but says that there is still a lot of very talented staff still there - some of whom have been promoted to more senior positions - and that there is a lot of very skilled new blood joining as well.

This isn't the first time [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101715-Activision-Infinity-Ward-Will-Rise-From-the-Ashes] that Stohl has expressed his belief that Infinity Ward will bounce back, but until the studio releases an actual game, it's impossible to know for sure one way or the other. Infinity Ward has certainly been hit hard, but that doesn't meant it can't recover.

Huh, so Activision's going to do something right for once, assuming of course they do what they say they will which is very unlikely.

So, they are going to come back and create Modern Warfare 3: Revenge of the Even More Unbalanced Multiplayer Kill Streaks?

You know Bobby will force his psychotic will on the studio once they "recover."
Who says Stohl aint playing Dr. Breen to Kotick's Combine? Who says they AREN'T interfering RIGHT THIS INSTANT by paying him off to say shit like that? Who says Activision didn't install him as the new studio lead? Pardon me if I find it a little difficult to trust anything coming out of either party's mouth right now.

Silly Activision. You amputate the heart and brain of your underling, the rest of the major organs fall apart and you come up with this.

I'm not picking up on that reference, but yeah I'm with you on not trusting anything they say.
Half-Life 2. The Combine are an alien force that invades the earth and takes over, and they install the two-faced Dr. Breen as a figurehead leader for what's left of humanity. He's basically a talking head out to keep his own skin safe while spouting out idiotic drivel about how good it is that the Combine has them under their heel and what great benefactors they are for kidnapping and murdering people, forcing them into labor camps, and suppressing everyone's ability to mate.

So, you want your new employees to be living in a "police state" and get underpaid when it comes to royalties. And you want them all to escape after a few years, uniting with your main enemies in publishing.
Nice, Activision. This is pathetic. Not only have you curb-stomped all over your main cash cow, but you are now crying over the ashes and going "Nooo, they'll recover from this, they're not dead, they'll be fine."
News flash, IW lost every writer, every four out of five development leads, every four out of five game designers and every three out of four engineers. Most of the people left are artists and animators. That sounds pretty fucking dead to me.

What they mean is they won't be helping them, financially, get back on their feet after violating them and leaving them in their current state.

I find it funnt to be honest IW is gone. Anyone who cared or put anythough into the work left. Now all they have is the ability to pump out carbon copies of games that use to be good. Maybe will get lucky and Act will go under as a whole. A man can dream still right.

So let me get this straight. Back when Infinity Ward was doing great on it's own and didn't need their help they couldn't interfere quick enough. Now that Infinity Ward is gutted and could most likely benefit from some outside help they want to let them be. Yeah, that sounds like the Activision I know.
