Inspired by the release of The Resistance yesterday I got to thinking about albums released in 2009, more specifically my favourite albums so far. I think it's been a wildly mediocre year in music aside from a few top notch releases, but that's just me. So I ask you escapist:
What are your thoughts on this year in music?
What are your favourite albums of the year so far?
Anything you're particularly looking forward to in the rest of the year?
So to get things started my top 5 albums so far this year are:
1. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
2. Super Furry Animals - Dark Days/Light Years
3. The Resistance - Muse (complete 3 listens today and I am thoroughly impressed)
4. Arctic Monkeys - Humbug
5. The XX - XX, wins the prize for the best debut.
In terms of future releases, Dizzee Rascal's Tongue N Cheek is out next week and I am quite looking forward to it, even if he has left his grime roots behind for a more dancey sound, Bonkers and Holiday have me stoked.
Also, I read that The Flaming Lip's next album's due out before the year's end - high hopes for that too.
Quick Edit: I did use the search bar and I'm aware there's quite a few music threads around these parts but I feel this offers a different enough point of discussion.
I'm also aware that The Beatles re-releases will help define 2009 but I'm thinking more along the lines of new music.
