2010 Summer E Games - Legacy Battle DRAFT Begins!

Starting August 16, The Escapist will be launching the Summer E Games, a two-week event full of quizzes, contests and competitions for badges. One of the events is a Legacy Battle in which 32 of your favorite series battle to be number one. The only problem is, we have 100 series to pick from, so we need you, The Escapist community, to choose which 32 series will make it into the initial battle.

You must be a registered member of The Escapist before you can participate, so sign up for your free account by click here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/global/registration/register.php] to visit the Legacy Battle Draft Page and choose your favorite 32!

The draft ends on Sunday, August 15th at 11:59PM EDT, so get your picks in while you can! It's is completely up to the community to choose who is in and who waits for another year on the sidelines.

To being choosing your top 32, click here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/legacy]!

Oh boy. March Mayhem with a different wig on.

I'm sorry, but I've learned something 5 months ago. I'm gonna sit this one out. I'll just sit in my Angry Dome and watch as the city burns down to the ground from all the flaming that's bound to blow into town.

This, is actually a lot more laid back then March Mayhem is. There is nothing on the line and very fun. Plus, so few people even try to flame, they are easier to find and dealt with immediately.

You can say what you want about how serious it is, but at the end of the day, it's still a "which of these is the best" contest to the fanboys. Whom will then rant and flame and fling various bodily wastes across the room to have their way.

And as I recall, the only thing at stakes for March Mayhem was a badge. And a community with larger fractures coursing throughout it.

It isn't worth it, to me at least.

At the very least we won't have Zynga people trying to de-throne game developers that makes games with actual content...

And you don't know what I'm talking about, Freshman.
You realize, of course, that this is exactly what brought March Mayhem to be such a horrible thing last go-round? This exact attitude where people that are new to the site are treated like criminals because they don't know the entire ins and outs. I was half expecting someone to say "this is the cancer that's killing /escapist/". It is not a competition over what the best game is. That would be an objectively scored competition, which is impossible. It's a competition of which game more people like. But instead of paying attention to that, people only spend their time saying why people shouldn't vote for this game or why that game is crap. If you have a problem with the opinions of others regarding your game, then here's a hint. Don't listen. Just go and play the game you enjoy so much. If you run into those same people while you're playing the game, say online in multiplayer, then it obviously means they like it enough to play it, or at least spend their money on it. But I digress.

What I am trying to say is that your response, in the opening MINUTES of this event, is the perfect example of a mindset that has plagued this website since long before you joined, and will plague it for long after. Everybody is new at one point. Everybody starts out with one post on a single thread. You did, I did, hell, even the staff did. But instead of leading by example and showing people what they're doing wrong, people like you spend all their time breeding a sense that "new is bad" and that new members ought to be ashamed of themselves, and should just sit in their corner and stay quiet. It's ridiculous. You complain about March Mayhem nearly destroying the quality of the forums, and then in the next post you lay the seeds for the exat same problem to happen all over again. Do you realize that that one post is basically the entirety of what March Mayhem's problem was, in a nutshell? It's the same thing that happened the year before last too. It always starts with one person saying "shut up newbie you don't matter." And if it happens in this event, just know that you're one of the key causes of it.

On a side note, the Legacy battle has occurred here before, and guess what? It didn't boil down to a flame war of epic proportions. It didn't cause a massive influx of new members that didn't know the rules of the site. It was fun. But congratulations. You may have ruined that fun for everyone before it even started. I hope you're proud of yourself.

At first I was like "Oh don't be such a pessimist....."

Then I read the rules and realized how correct you are.

There's no Timesplitters. That makes me sad :(

Guess I'll have to go with what they give me...

After picking my favourite game series from the list, i was a bit dissapointed that my three actual ones weren't there (namely Dynasty Warriors, Legacy of Kain and the Smackdown vs Raw series). However, it looks like a jolly good laugh, so no harm done. :)

I have one question and one question only; where is Portal?
Not a series yet, and then we'll have to debate on weither it's covered by Half Life's inclusion.

I just hoppe they don't include a spot for "X-ville Zynga games" here; it'll be March Mayhem all over again... :(

EDIT: Oh good, I just realised it's not there. Phew. :)

EDIT2: Also, is Splinter Cell included under "Tom Clancy"? I would have preferred to give SC its own spot - I'm not a big fan of Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon - but I guess it'll have to do.

ANOTHEREDIT: When you say "give a healthy shout-out to your favourites, does that mean we can request additions to the list? If so, can we please have Wipeout and Uncharted?
