Visceral Hopeful of Making a Third Dead Space Game

They'll be no shortage of alien dismemberment in the future, not if Visceral Games gets its way.

Visceral Games has a tale it wants to tell with the Dead Space games, and part of its motivation for making Dead Space 2 as good as it can is so that it can make Dead Space 3 and continue telling the story.

Dead Space 2 executive producer Steve Papoutsis said that Visceral had a rough outline of where future Dead Space games would go. He said that the level of detail wasn't particular high, but it also branched into other media like the Dead Space novel Martyr and into the history of the setting, like the creation of the Unitology religion.

Papoutsis is under no illusions that Dead Space 3 is a certainty however, and says that it's going to take an "outpouring of support" for Dead Space 2 in order for a second sequel to be made. He said that the cost and planning that went into making a blockbuster game meant that it didn't make sense to do it if the support wasn't there. If the support is there though, Papoutsis said that Visceral would happily keep making Dead Space games until people got bored of them. "I worked on a lot of different games," he said. "15 years worth of games. This is probably the most support I've ever seen for a franchise I've been on. So it's pretty cool."

Dead Space 2 will be released for Xbox 350, PS3, and PC on January 25th.

I approve of this. To my mind Dead Space has taken over Resident Evil's spot in the world of not-really-survival horror games.

Ehhh... maybe if the second one is better put together than the first one, I might give it a shot.

I mean, it definitely had its merits, but I just wasn't that enthralled by it. :c

Its been said before, but it can take a few extra posts.
Dead Space is the new Resident Evil.
They even got their Nemesis out of the way early so we never have to deal with that ever again.

I want those upgraded weapons, damn you!

I just want to leave, damn you!

Well i hope that they will make a 3rd game i really liked the the first one. It wasnt a pure survival horror game but it was still quite fun to disember the necromorphs with some awesome weapons.

Dead Space was brilliant! And the prospect of a third sounds intriguing; although I've got Dead Space 2 for this year to worry about!

Not to sound like a shill, but looking at the DS2 website, the game is looking smoking hot. The mulitplayer even looks great, and I was originally totally perplexed at how they were going to implement it.

Of course, I loved the first one: it was to me a far more true 'spiritual successor' to my beloved System Shock than Bioshock was, really.

True, especially when you compare RE5 to Dead Space, Re5 can not compare.

I didn't care much for the Dead Space backstory, and felt that much of the faux-religion aspect was weak boilerplate. On its own, biological contamination that both mutated and induced madness was enough of an explanation for the story. And if one truly wanted to raise the stakes for a sequel, the "biological contamination" could have been a terraforming project from an alien species, which grew out of control due to inadvertent "human contamination."

So in Dead Space, the monsters were essentially mutations of humans. For a Dead Space sequel, it would have then made sense for the original aliens to come investigating the interference with their terraforming project, only for them to become infected by the "human contamination" and mutate into a whole new set of possible monsters. And then you as the hero respond (or get involved) due to the distress call....

Alright! I'm usually not too enthralled by promises like this, but for some reason I have faith in Visceral. Can't wait for January 25th.
