Shamus Plays: Champions Online, Part 13

The sheer amount of stupid in Millenium City finally becomes too much for Star on Chest. Perhaps the desert will be better.

That was pretty funny. And made a few good points.

Just how many statues did they really need??

"Basically, you tricked me into killing all your guys and then you tried to go through that brick wall head-first."

"What are you talking about? I never-"
Now that's a proper hero statement :) I laughed hard at that, thanks.

Yeah, exactly the same here. :D

This is such a funny series, it's great seeing an obviously fun game with GAPING MILE-LONG HOLES IN get picked apart. The golden mean between trying to find fault with good games for the trolz and ripping apart bad games because they deserve it so thoroughly. Much more entertaining than either.

I really hope that the logic holes present in City of Heroes don't pop up in DC Universe Online....

Ah, who am I kidding... they will :p

I've done this once [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/6.205718.6963496], so let's be circular!

Ah, yes. If I were a supervillain I'd just lead superheroes into dark places, hide far away, and then range-ambush them. They'd never find me and I'd make every superhero a superFAILURE! MWHAHAHAHA!

Tune in next time for the stupid, anticlimactic, waste-of-everyone's-time conclusion!
Sad to see it end, but I knew it was coming. Will Star on Chest spend his days in a pub ranting about how the so-called defenders of the common man are all complete morons? Will he be commiserating with other retired heroes like the once-great Lulzy? Or will he decide that evil will always triumph, because good is dumb? Will he become Evil Star on Evil Chest? Stay tuned!

The necessity of convention means that every game will have holes, if you look for them. It's just a matter of how willing you are to overlook / dwell on them. I imagine we'll see first-hand in two weeks as the WoW haters and fanboys both take Shamus' jokes on that game too seriously.

It's gonna be great! Can hardly wait.

CO was such a painful experience. It's one thing to skip quest text because it's boring/irrelevant....it's another to skip it because its almost physically painful to ponder the so-called "story" being offered. This was the only MMO to date that I actually felt embarassed about playing (well, this and a few F2P Korean MMOs with horrible localization).

Oh, absolutely! Nothing's perfect.

It has Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill involved- they had me at "LUTHOR!!"

The villain's name really is Menton? Basically "chin", in French? Nice. It's like the new concept car from Audi, named e-tron. Remove the dash, and in French, it means "turd". Really, the fact that some people are not thinking their awesome names through make it a lot funnier for non-English speakers!

Fair dos, further ridiculing something that already appears to be mugging madly, performing prat-falls and wearing its underpants on its head is quite a challenge. For the sake of my desk and my forehead, I'm very glad someone else is playing this for me! :p
