Konami Crafting Patch to Slay Save Eating PS3 Castlevania Glitch

PS3 owners might want to play something other than Castlevania: Lords of Shadow [http://www.amazon.com/Castlevania-Lords-Shadow-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0J6DC/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1287062723&sr=1-1] for a while, as their saved games may be in grave peril.

Much like a vampire, the PS3 version of Lords of Shadow has a dark thirst, a gnawing hunger that it is compelled to feed. Only it's not the blood of the living that the game must consume, it's their saved games, which is much less terrifying, but incredibly irritating all the same.

Affected players receive error messages that read "Save file corrupt, will now overwrite, press X to continue." Pressing X causes the game to devour the save, erasing the player's progress in the process. Konami has acknowledged the problem, and says that it only affects a small number of players. It is, however, working on a patch to correct the issue, although there is no word on when it might arrive.

Until the patch is ready, it might be wise to back up your saved game or even just play something else. The chances of you losing your progress might be small, but better to be safe than sorry, right?

It happened to me once while playing it but I'd only ventured into the beginning of the third chapter before it happened so there wasn't much to replay before I caught up again. The game in itself is enjoyable enough to replay, plus I found further hidden loot this time around and managed to improve the health gauge earlier still

My only question is how do they not catch this shit before they ship the game? I mean, aren't there game testers and shit that look out for this?
My answer is that you're not really giving them credit for all the bugs they did catch and iron out - unfortunately, there are always going to be bugs that slip past the testers. Think of this like finding a hair in your soup - yes, it's unpleasant and it deserves to be corrected, but it is going to happen sometimes no matter how good the chefs are...

While that may be a valid point, something as critical as saving should really have eyes kept close on it. Much like Trophies/Achievements. Nothing more frustrating than glitched T/As.

Modern video games have an infinite amount of possible input permutations. Note, I didn't say near infinite. I said infinite. It's impossible to find all of the ones that cause a glitch, even with the most diligent beta testers.

And even if they did find the bug, if it's rare enough, they might not have been able to replicate it, and they probably wrote it off.

Yeah, they do, but there's also a high chance that none of them caught this bug while testing. There's no guarantee that they would be playing any bugged copies, so it's a bug that can easily fly under the radar.

OT: I think I've had this happen before with other games, and admittedly it sucks, but unlike this, I can't get a patch for those games. Good on Konami for catching it before it goes out of production.

i remember a time when buying a console meant you never had to patch.

i miss that time.
Yeah, wasn't it just so awesome when you had to live with your glitched copy of a game or wait for a re-release to buy it again? Those sure were the days!

Kind of like that one Gamecube game. Eternal Darkness I think it was.

Only that game didn't eat your saves. Well it did, but it would give them back.
