Nintendo Holding Public Event to Demo 3DS

Nintendo is holding a public 3DS demo event to convince those on the fence about the device.

Nintendo has admitted that the 3DS must be seen to be believed, and it has a plan to get the no-glasses 3D handheld out to the public before release. Nintendo recently announced that it will be holding a public 3DS demo event early next year.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata revealed the event through a video recording where he again said that the 3DS may face the consumer acceptance hurdle of screenshots and videos not being able to display the handheld's 3D effect. In an attempt to let gamers see how it actually works, the company is holding this event.

As expected, Nintendo has only announced the public demo for Japan at this time. It'll take place from January 8-10 at Makuhari Messe, the same location where the Tokyo Game Show and Nintendo's recent 3DS press conference were held.

This will be the first time that Nintendo makes the 3DS available to the public, though plenty of press members have already more [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101379-E3-2010-Hands-on-With-the-Nintendo-3DS] about the gameplay of the 3DS's lineup.

Iwata said this will be Japan's only large-scale 3DS public demo, but that Nintendo also has other plans to allow consumers to try the 3DS before its Japanese release date [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/103851-Nintendo-3DS-Coming-in-2011-With-300-Price-Tag] of February 26, 2011. Though it'd be tough to choose a single, best location for such an event in North America or other regions, hopefully Nintendo will hold a similar public demo or two in overseas markets.

The 3D sceptics who believe Nintendo just made a fancy DS and slapped a gimmick on it. Naturally, these people are rather thick and don't realise this is essentially the DS mark 2 rather than a new iteration. They also have to convince everyone who is buying DSi's for their kids.

Calumon: So Mario's gonna jump at me? :S

Hey, I'm not buying one for my kids! [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ITakeOffenseToThatLastOne]

I've never been much of a handheld gamer overall, regardless of what company produced it. On top of that, Nintendo products have always been an impulse buy for me when I saw my friends getting one. And I haven't touched my Wii or DS in months.

I dunno, I guess Nintendo's just not for me. I really want to love Nintendo, but I'm just not their "target audience" I suppose. I'm still a bit skeptical over the whole 3DS thing, but I guess I just don't want to get sucked in to the Nintendo Hype like the Wii and DS did to me.

3DS is good news to me, simply because DSi's are likely to drop in price soon.

I'm definitely on the fence; on the fence surrounding the warehouse that stocks 3DS's and when I get over the fence I'm definitely getting a 3DS.

What about people who don't care about the 3D effects, but jizz over the new graphics capabilities? You can convey THAT with screenshots.

Vulgar, but accurate. I love the graphical capabilities the 3DS is throwing around. 3D doesn't excite me much, but the huge leap in horsepower does.

Maybe they're trying to convince those sad people who are old enough to remember the Virtual Boy. But all those people are probably blind now, so they can't experience the 3D anyway.

I want the first time I experience it to be in the comfort of my own home on the day of release. I don't need any more convincing.
You had me at new Nintendo handheld with an upcoming Paper Mario title.

Stupid idea, the event will be expensive and. proportionally expose the device to very few people. Why not just wait until the ds actually comes out. Seeing it from friends who have it will allow people to experience it firsthand better than any stupid event could.

I hate that these things never reach me. I would love to see them try to convince me that the 3DS is worth buying. I bet it could take them a few seconds and maybe the sentence "It's a 3DS" before I would decide to buy it.
