Hot Pursuit Fans Drop the Ball, Get Free Cars Anyway

Gamers couldn't meet Criterion's challenge to view the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit [http://www.amazon.com/Need-Speed-Hot-Pursuit-Xbox-360/dp/B003R783IY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292275953&sr=8-1] launch trailer a million times, but the studio is going to give them some free DLC anyway.

Back in November, Criterion Games [http://www.criteriongames.com/] issued a simple challenge: if the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit launch trailer was viewed one million times on YouTube, the studio would give fans a little holiday bonus in the form of three free downloadable supercars. But the community blew it; at last count, the trailer had only been viewed a little over 660,000 times. Lucky for all you wanna-be wheelmen out there, the Criterion guys are a generous and forgiving bunch.

"Oh, so close!" the studio wrote on the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit blog [http://hotpursuit.needforspeed.com/blog]. "The Need for Speed Hot Pursuit launch trailer didn't quite make it to one million views, but our community still turned out an amazing performance. We'd like to thank you all for sharing the trailer with your friends and making sure that everybody knows that Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is the best, most intense (and VGA-winning!) racing game of the year."

And yes, because you all tried your very, very best, you get the cars, too. A Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible, Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster and Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible Final Edition will be included in a future title update for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game, and Criterion said it would "be sharing more PC news when it becomes available."

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is available now for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.

Neat! Criterion's awesome like that..

I'm kinda disappointed with the multiplayer being mainly friends list focused only, but the single player is still quite fun! :D More cars is always a plus too!

Yep. it seems that, once again, PC gamers will miss out on the DLC [http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/12/13/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-dlc-not-coming-to-pc/].

Derp.

It's good to see the, "eh, fuck it" attitude when the end result benefits us. That's my default attitude.

Is this the same Criterion that is not going to release any of the paid DLC for the PC because of (hah!) lack of resources?.

I'm not sure, but on PS3 I got a title update that was 300 megs, which I think has to be these cars. Personally, I don't like it, since I can't really tell the difference between the cars half the time, and now a bunch of events I've gotten gold in now have "new" written next to them because of the new vehicles. This game is the bomb, however. Buy it.

And others:

No game is perfect. It might be 'good' but there is no way an arcade driving game from Electronic Arts/Criterion is 'perfect'. I think the older Hot Pursuits were the best of the NFS franchise, and hopefully this is a return to form, but How In Fuck's Name Can You Justify A Perfect Score?

If I find a clipping glitch, or unwarranted framerate drop, or my little brother can beat me in a race by wall-riding every corner, then the game is not perfect.

Honesty in journalism, please. Just because it's a AAA game doesn't warrant inflated scores.
It makes the aforementioned reviewers seem as though they have been bought out, and shouldn't be listened to or taken seriously any more.

According to the scores given by reviewers these days, we should be living in the Gaming Golden Era, rather than the Cookie-Cutter-Safe-Bet-By-The-Numbers-Bullshit Age.

Peace.

thats nice. But i use to remember studios did this as a thank you to their customers back in the day without expecting their users to do something to get it.

Yeah, back in the day of Updates, Patches & Content Packs. Instead of today's "Release half the game as retail, rest as paid DLC. Or give out some of it as FREE DLC in trade for god worship"

While that does suck, racing games aren't usually played best on PC. Lack of degrees in steering and all that.

Then get a controller: problem solved. And, honestly, I disagree [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRacing] with [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RFactor] that [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrackMania] assessment. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_07]

not to mention the fact that when they release "free" DLC everyone goes and praises them for doing what was done years ago. O how the times have changed ._. Guess ill just cling desperately to valve and hope they don't change (thou im not gonna hold my breath)

so i guess its too much to ask for a game to simply cost $50-$60 and not require another $30-$150+ peripheral to make it play just as well as the console version? o_O

If you have a bog standard wired 360 controller, there's no problem. And besides, it's not like the game is completely unplayable (Burnout Paradise was perfectly playable on the PC with the keyboard).

Herp.

Whilst I maintain, for the record, that the speed in question is undeniably HOT, I have changed it anyway. Thanks. :)

just defending the man you disagree with. I share his sentiment that racing games on PC are just subpar in relation to their console counterpart. The usual response is as you said "get a controller" which, to me, is an irrational argument for y a type of game is just better or not on a particular platform. Basically, y must i make my PC a console to play a game properly?

I give you a bowl of soup and give you both a spork and spoon, you can drink soup with a spork well enough but just more efficient with a spoon. It doesnt taste different using one utensil over the other.

neither of us are saying they cant be played, just pointing out their limitations when ported from an analog stick to keyboard.

p.s. literally just had to discussion with my peeps on TS about this last night. hence my tenacity on the subject. Don't mean to sound argumentative about it either :D

Umm... what? It's still early but that's easily the silliest thing I've heard all day.
