Crytek Debuts Warface Gameplay Video

The first gameplay video for Crytek's [http://www.crytek.com/] upcoming free-to-play shooter Warface is now on the tubes.

Crytek revealed Warface [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105643-Crytek-Shows-Its-Warface] in late November as a game designed specifically for Asian markets, where microtransaction-powered free-to-play online games are common. The online shooter will apparently support co-op and PvP gameplay, but it's still in alpha testing and thus details are scarce.

"The development of our first free-to-play online project marks another major stepping stone for our studio," Crytek Managing Director Avni Yerli told GamesIndustry [http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2010-12-13-tencent-to-manage-cryteks-warface-in-china]. "We believe this game will make a glorious achievement in the Asian markets."

A gameplay video has now turned up on YouTube [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tULj4KJCL8U], showing off some multiplayer combat that looks surprisingly polished for a game in "pre-alpha" state. But it also looks, as Logan Westbrook mentioned in his assessment of the initial screenshots, a tad generic. Free is good, but with so many other options on the market, it's not enough to guarantee success and Crytek may need to work on its Warface if it wants to scare anyone.

No word yet on when Warface will be released or whether it will eventually make its way to Western markets.

Achieved with CryEngine 3.

Sad that the first game to be made on the engine looks so generic. But hey, with all that power in the engine, that also means it could be optimized to the max without straining the engine.

Looks cool either way,

That's not how real blood looks? Campy 80's horror movies have lied to me!

I will admit, that's pretty sexy for a free-to-play game. Let's hope the community won't be plagued with people shouting "HACKER" like every other free-to-play shooter out there...

Looks cool. It'll be even cooler when there's a machine capable of running it in about ten years time.
Cry Engine 2 can now be run by most gaming rigs, its not as demanding as many people make it out to be.

Cry Engine 3 is even lighter on a system, which is extra nice.

Looks generic, but damn fine for a free game.

Seriously, we need another CoD?! Activision is already pumping those out double time.
Is everyone out of new ideas or something...

Well, comparing it to most free to play FPS's currently out...this could stomp on alot of the usual F2P shooters...time will tell.

This isn't the first game to use the engine, Crysis 2 is. Plus, it shows the quality of the engine if they can tone it down enough but still keep it high quality.

I can's stop laughing. It's hilarious because it actually looks better than Black Ops. How could this be?

Strawberry jelly was already taken COUGH*MW2*COUGH. :)

It actually looks really good though. Crytek has done good for a pre-alpha!
