THQ Unveils New Homefront Trailer

THQ has unveiled a new cinematic trailer for Homefront [http://www.amazon.com/Homefront-Pc/dp/B003Q55Y5C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1292350732&sr=8-3], painting a bleak portrait of the occupied United States in the year 2027.

Homefront, for those who haven't seen it, is a near-future shooter in which an economically-collapsed United States has been cut loose by its allies and then invaded by a unified, nuclear-armed Korea. But the invaders' efforts are stymied by a small group of Colorado high school students who arm themselves at a local sporting goods store, flee into the mountains and conduct a guerrilla warfare resistance campaign until the U.S. military can right itself and strike back.

No, wait, I'm thinking of something else. It's an easy mistake to make, though, and not just because you'll be playing as an average, everyday gun-toting guy fighting off a Commie invasion; the game's script and assurance [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104690-Homefront-Novel-Tells-Story-of-Korea-Invading-U-S-in-2027] that the game won't have any "steroided-out super-soldier waving the American flag."

The new trailer doesn't show off much in the way of gameplay, but it does look brutal and intense. It's a lot easier to hit those marks in a heavily-edited, two-minute promotional video than over the course of an entire videogame, but THQ appears to be taking this one seriously and is giving it an awful lot of push. Bilson's talk of a "vast transmedia strategy" makes me a little nervous, but I'm still hopeful that Homefront lives up to its billing.

Homefront is due out in March 2011 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It actually looks really good, somewhat of a Half-Life 2 feel to it.

I'm still meh about how the game looks, but I think the concept is hilarious enough to merit at least a rental.

Whhaaaa? Wait? No....I was sure this would be bad!

But 'Red Dawn' and 'Apocalypse Now'? THQ stop toying with my emotions and making me believe in you again!
I had all but given up hope after the non-existence of 'Star Wars:Battlefront 3' God-Dammit!

If they can pull of stable, guerrilla-style warfare, I'm in. To me, it sounds like the idea behind Half-Life, except against other humans. And we all love us some Half-Life.

And if they can explain how Korea got past all of our nukes, then we have a real story.

Besides the impossible storyline, this looks decent. Graphics need a bit of polishing and the Multiplayer looks a bit dull but nevertheless, the Campaign should be good.

Hilarious how they use real North Korean footage though!

its looking interesting but the only way I can see an invasion of the us working is if we have a another civil war to really deplete things

Or if the country is the midst of complete economic collapse, the military has been downsized to worrying levels, and the electronics grid has been EMP'd. Not that this could actually happen in real life, but this is a fictional story so just roll with it.

Heh... I know THQ said that this wouldn't be a propaganda-filled patriot game, but it sure as hell looks like one...

Graphics need alot of work, but I like the idea of where the game is going. I just hope they aren't trying to put out some garbage and hoping flag-waving Americans will buy it up just because.

So this guy wrote Red Dawn, Apocalypse Now, and this? Wow, he really fucking hates commies and new ideas.

"Hmm, what can I write this new piece about? Let me make a list of possibilities.

1. Communists
2. Pandas

Huh. Looks like it's Communists again."

the problem with emp is that everyone knows about them so while it would do alot of damage to the civilian infrastructure it would probably hardly effect the military since alot of military equipment is hardened against it.

The way I see an invasion working is a civil war occurs after an economic down turn, the war is either very long with lots of damage or somewhat short but does enough damage but the point is that when it happens the nation is too fractured to have a real unified counter attack and is too busy focusing on internal events to really notice the build up. Also an invading power taking over the whole of the us is totaly fiction but conquering a part of it is much more plausible maybe getting part of the coasts or something and being able to fortify that area

Makes sense that it was written by John Milius, because that's the dumbest thing I've seen since Red Dawn.

The name is on an American flag. How can this game possibly not be "Call of Duty: PATRIOTISM, HO!" again?

Also, their North Korean propaganda is not as scary as actual North Korean propaganda.
