Question of the Day, December 25, 2010

Earlier this week, we learned about a new downloadable D&D game [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106364-Downloadable-Dungeons-and-Dragons-Action-Coming-Next-Year] that promised four playable classes - presumably the core Fighter, Rogue, Wizard and Cleric. What is your favorite role to play in a party, whether in an online game or around a table rolling dice?

I don't have a favourite I play whatever is needed. Although first I like to try either tank or offensive Elemental Mage or maybe some sort of summoner or Necromancer of some description..

I like to be the Heavy Weapons guy, at the back of the team on top of a large hill with a minigun clearing the way.

So support, which also is why I am always an Elementalist in Guild Wars

Who doesn't like killing things??
But it kinda depends on the party itself. It's nice being crucial to success.

umm, is it just me or is this poll lacking a lot of options, support is such a broad category that it covers anyone from a (medieval/fantasy setting):assassin, archer, mage, healer (it doesn't deserve a category if the others don't), (modern/futuristic setting): Sniper, Medic and Heavy Weapons specialist.

Support shouldn't be bunndeled together if healer gets its own spot, a sniper is just as important as a Medic, as a archer is as important as a healer.

Assassin, archer, mage, sniper, heavy weapons = Damage dealer. Pretty straight forward what you're going to be doing.

Medic...well, self explanatory.

Anyways...for me?
Elemental Shaman. I'm gonna taze ya, bro.

Turning a terrible class/spec into one of the top DPS-ers in an end-tier raid? Definitely priceless to see the way the others react. :3

But yeah, I'm a DPS-er. Magic preferably...it's just what I do; I'm too ADD-addled to handle Tanking or Healing, and Support? ...nah, not for me.

I typically enjoy a meatshield without the shield. Two handed pure pain. I've never been able to enjoy a caster class in DnD. :(.

I play whatever is needed usually. And then just try to have fun coming up with unexpected ways to help/mess with the story.

I love having the responsibilties of being the tank. Being a huge hulking unstoppable force is just too much fun.

When playing D&D, i never play a sorc. or a wizard. If i play a spellcaster, then only a bard.
Or a ranged ranger.
But i rarely play a tank.
So yeah, i guess I'm supportive.

I'm the guy who wades in with a massive sword and smacks everything to death with scant regard for my own bodily wellbeing... I guess that's tank.
