Sega's Slashing Prices on Downloadable Games

Sega's got some digital stocking stuffers for you to check out, and they're pretty heavily marked down.

The Holidays often feature some great deals for the shrewd shopper, especially when it comes to digital game purchases. Sega seems to be taking a note from this playbook and has announced a massive slashing of prices across the board, for a number of different systems. The discounts are fairly substantial, especially with titles on XBLA and PSN, though iPhone gamers are certainly being offered some notable price reductions, too.

The PSN customers are getting some pretty major deals, though some of the games aren't exactly stellar (I seem to recall hearing that Iron Man 2 was pretty dreadful). That said, the iPhone games are pretty fun. I own both Sonic games for my phone and they're really fun. The sale is running until January 3rd, and it sounds like more titles might be added to the list over the next few days.

Here's the full list of discounted games, as listed by Sega:

iOS
Super Monkey Ball -- $0.99, down from $2.99
Sonic the Hedgehog -- $2.99, down from $4.99
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 -- $2.99, down from $4.99
Super Monkey Ball 2 -- $0.99, down from $2.99
Super Monkey Ball 2 Sakura Edition -- $2.99, down from $4.99

Xbox Live Arcade

"Shhh, it's a secret - no really - we can't tell you - so check back on December 30th to see what we'll be discounting!"

On December the 30th it's Sonic games.

Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Sonic the Hedgehog 4
Sonic Adventure
Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing Car

They will all be discounted, though we don't know the price.

Anyway I would so buy every Sonic game if I hadn't already.

Very nice. Now WHERE THE FUCK IS THE REST OF THE QUADRILOGY? Phantasy Stars 1 and 4 are the best, followed by 2, and 3 is the black sheep...so why include only the second game?

$9.99 for the Sega Genesis Collection?! Now THAT is a freaking sweet deal - I paid $40.00 for it, and it was worth every penny. $9.99 almost seems like theft...

Why no mention of Steam? All of the Sega games on Steam are 25% off right now, as part of the Christmas Steam sale. Is it just not as good of a sale as this other stuff, or is there some sort of oversight here?

Why does the Director's Cut version cost LESS?
Because the Director's Cut version on PSN is actually an paid for update to the original Sonic Adventure files, not the whole game on itself. Normally, to get DX from not having Adventure, you need to spend around $15.

Christmas at Steam is ridiculously awesome. I have to make sure next year to have at least an extra $100 I can blow on video games.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 for that price?

I'd be a FOOL to pass it up.

And Gunstar Heroes for 2.99?

If I didn't own it already, I'd be sold.

Why is DX cheaper than the original Sonic Adventure?...
DX is actually just an update to the original Sonic Adventure. You can't buy the DX version by itself. First you buy Sonic Adventure, and then you buy the DX update, which includes all the crap the DX version had.
