Black Ops Racks Up Nearly 70,000 Years of Play

According to Activision, enough people played Call of Duty: Black Ops [http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-Black-Ops-Xbox-360/dp/B003JVKHEQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293576890&sr=8-1] to populate a decent sized country.

The Cold War is now quite a bit longer, thanks to Activision, Treyarch, and Call of Duty: Black Ops. According to Activision's figures, Black Ops players have amassed 600 million man hours of playtime, which is equal to 68,000 man years.

Activision didn't say exactly how many players it had taken to accrue such an enormous amount of time, but said that it was more than the number of people who had watched the Lost finale, and but not quite as many as Texas. This puts the total somewhere between 20.5 million and around 25 million.

According to Activision, the 600 million hours averages about to every single player putting in 87 minutes a day, every day from when the game came out on November 9th, all the way up to Christmas Eve, which, as the publisher points out, is longer than people use Facebook for each day on average.

Black Ops' biggest competitor, Halo: Reach [http://www.amazon.com/Halo-Reach-Xbox-360/dp/B002BSA20M/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1293577043&sr=1-1], accrued [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106270-Halo-Reach-Players-Depopulate-the-Earth-Five-Times-Over] slightly less than half of the time of the Cold War shooter in a longer period of time. Of course, Reach is a platform exclusive, so it's not really a like-for-like comparison. In fact, it would be interesting to see how the playtime breaks down across the various platforms, but those numbers don't seem to be something that Activision wants to release.

CoD Racks up to 70,000 hours? That's a bit small there >.>

But still, wow. Those a pretty damn massive numbers for a game which seems to get a lot of complaints. Not saying that it isn't expected but those are just damn impressive.

Like Delusibeta says, it's probably nothing compared to WoW. I know a lot of people on my server alone who play for at least 12 hours a day every day.

Would you be so kind as to point me in the direction of those patches, assuming steam doesn't load them automatically (if it does, they don't help)

Anyway, how is Black Ops?

Is it an unbalanced, broken mess with a terrible spawn system like MW2?
I personally love it. It took me a while to get into, but since the PC version has had a few patches and it's not lagging any more I think it's great. I only play SnD but SNd-wise the game is very balanced and the maps are well designed. It's not like MW2 at all.

Only 20 hours logged in for me, I'd honestly play a lot more but I think the prestige system is stupid and I just don't like the faster pace then MW2.
