Kojima Productions Hiring For Next Generation Metal Gear Solid

New job postings hint at a potentially multiplatform, multiplayer, stealth extravaganza in the pipeline at Konami.

A slew of job postings [http://www.konami.co.jp/job/jk/spe/kojima_pro.php?ref=ameblo] on the Konami website have revealed that Hideo Kojima's studio, Kojima Productions, is looking for staff to work on a "next-generation" Metal Gear Solid game. Kojima Productions is looking for all kinds of staff, from scripters to level designers to CG concept artists.

The requirements for the various jobs also contain a lot of hints about the game itself. The descriptions for the posts of "Graphics Programmer" and "Network Programmer" asks for experience in working with the Xbox 360, PS3 or PC. This suggests that the game might feature a multiplayer mode - possibly similar to Metal Gear Online - and that it could be a multiplatform release. Obviously, this is only conjecture, but with spin-off Metal Gear Solid: Rising appearing on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, other games in the series being multiplatform is far from impossible.

It's not clear whether these listings are for another game in the main series, or for Rising, which is supposedly not due for release until 2012 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105128-Rumor-Metal-Gear-Solid-Rising-Not-Coming-Until-2012]. It's going to be tricky to make a true sequel - or at least one with Solid Snake or Raiden as the protagonist - as Metal Gear Solid 4 sewed up pretty much every loose end going, but a prequel, like Metal Gear Solid 3 could work, as could a sequel with a new hero.

Hopefully this will be something new. The Metal Gear series really needs a shot in the arm of something fresh. The current saga has well and truly played itself to death.

edit: Disclaimer: Not to say I don't love Metal Gear Solid (because by god do I love Metal Gear Solid).

Hideo Kojima, I thought you were tired of working on MGS. Do something new and fresh.
Exactly. Stick to your promises, man! You killed off our hero, now let this series live on in the form of yearly-released spin-offs :D
I mean... Where the HELL is Metal Gear Acid 3? I want a friggin' MGA3! :D

Please.. no more. It's finished, over, done with, quite literally aged and died. There's just no need for more Metal Gear.

I always thought a continuation would work in the manner of, some shadow organization decided to copy the Les Enfants Terribles that made Solid Snake, and make a new generation of super soldier.

But I wouldnt call it Metal Gear Solid, this would be a new story, Metal Gear... Rebirth?

he said its the last chapter, not the last game.

There is plenty of need for more Metal Gear, in that it still does stealth-action better than most, it's just that it doesn't need to do it on the same fucking narrative. The story needs a reboot more than the developers need meals between designing models of bandannas and ignoring their spouses.

If they decide to finally start over and even pass on the actual script-writing to someone else (even Hideo's own sociopolitical concerns have gotten stale), then by all means, go ahead.

Well people seem to forget that the last Metal Gear Solid game... Peace Walker, was very very nearly called Metal Gear Solid 5, as it was a direct sequel to MGS3. If Kojima decided to not call that game MGS5, I doubt he would give another game that name. So I'm pretty sure the main series is over, if that wasn't already made clear by the ending of MGS4.

Although I would love it if they did re-release Peace Walker on PS3/Xbox as MGS5... That would be awesome...

But I doubt Kojima would reveal a new MGS game like this... Its probably just for MGS:Rising (Which I think should have been called Metal Gear: Rising, leaving out the Solid).

Quite frankly, what Kojima needs to do above all else is to sew up all the existing plot holes and then give the series sweet merciful cyanide.

Im not the first or the last to think or know this, but Metal Gears story has gotten so out of hand that during the wirting of Peace Walker Kojima actually employed people to go over his portfolio to make sure no new unintentional plot holes appeared.

As great a game as it was, MGS3 took what was already a long story, then blew it up so hard thinking about the story prior to MGS3 is now impossible.

MGS4, excessively overwritten as it was, serves as the end of the series. The games heavily laden story element serves solely to end the series by retiring most of the characters and killing off the rest. The only thing we know is happening after MGS4 is Snakes death due to accelerated aging.

If theres going to be a new MGS then its probably another side story, like Rising, or another main sequence game to fill in the plot holes and maybe kill some speculation. It could be about how EVA came to run a resistance group in the middle of europe and just how she got her hands on Solidus' body.

Ok im done now.

The reason why the series is called Solid is because of the transition from 2D top-down view to full 3D animation. Its quite obvious when you know there was a Metal Gear before Metal Gear Solid.

Release scheduled in 2012? Great! Now you won't notice the world falling down around your ears because you'll be watching a freaking 20 minute cut-scene
Oh and:
Next Generation Metal Gear Solid?
I timed a mgs4 mission briefing and it was 40 minutes long

I want some more MGS1 classic action with David Hayter, so a prequel with grid based stealth is what it's going to have to be.

Stop. It was fantastic while the main series lasted, but now its getting to be too much. They had a 90 minute cutscene at the end of MGS4. All leads are tied up. Just stop.

Metal Gear: MMO

Things just got scary...
Metal Gear....Universe...the metal gear solid multiplatform mmorpg.
Personally...a like the idea of a metal gear solid mmorpg. An entire Universe and war economy....Pmc's.....just taking MGO to the next level. I guess a new MGS wouldn't be bad either lol.
