Sony Shows Off PSP2 Lineup In Motion

At Sony's recent NGP conference, it played a trailer that included more than 10 different games planned for the handheld.

A brief video filmed during Sony's PSP2/NGP-revealing press conference is our first look at some of the games planned for release in the foreseeable future. Half we've seen before, while the other half are brand new.

As for the franchises we already know about, they include Hot Shots Golf: Next, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Wipeout, Resistance, Uncharted, and Hustler King. The differences in these titles for the NGP include features using the front touchscreen, rear touch-panel, and internal gyroscope. In Killzone, players can bring up an arm-mounted interface and use touch commands to change weapon settings or call in an ion cannon strike. In Uncharted, players use the touchscreen to clean the dust off ancient relics, and use the panel to climb vines. Hustler King allows you to use your finger to pull back a pool cue, while Wipeout will have players turning the system itself to steer.

The newer titles coming to the NGP also integrate the handheld's abilities. Smart As is a puzzle game that has players tilting the system to move dice. Broken looks like a mystery game with players searching through a crime scene and dusting for fingerprints by touching the screen. Reality Fighters could be an augmented reality game, with Robot Chicken [http://www.amazon.com/Robot-Chicken-Season-Seth-Green/dp/B000E0OE3K]-esque action figures fighting in a real world environment. Gravity Daze features an acrobatic girl that flies through the air with the power of gravity, and what looks like the NGP's gyroscope. Little Deviants is perhaps the neatest title shown, with players poking the rear touch-panel and having their touches actually poke the in-game world, creating hills to roll ball-shaped creatures around mini-golf styled environments.

Now that the Nintendo DS and iPhone have made touchscreen gaming part of the typical gamer's consciousness, it's nice to see it in action from Sony's angle. The rear touch-panel in particular is something that I don't think we could have predicted, but it makes a lot of sense considering hand position while using a portable system. Seeing its use in Little Deviants definitely gives it some potential.

OMG! Killzone! :D

I think I may be sold on this handheld now. :D
It looks more comfortable than the PSPGo, thank goodness.

Wait, a handheld gyroscope version of Monkey Ball (Little Deviants)? I may have to pick one up now.

Well the Uncharted portable demonstration was pretty damn impressive and holy hell the visuals look amazing. Probably not the best quality vid, but you can really see how powerful this thing is.

Oh wow Killzone looks nice on the device. And Little Deviants looks the most interesting to play.

You know, I might actually get this. My old PSP is slowing breaking apart and this looks like a nice replacement.

Well it certainly looks impressive, though, i'm still not getting my hopes up just yet.

Wait, they're remaking Killzone? As in going back and fixing all the bugs and stuff?

I'm getting this then.

They aren't remaking it, this is an entirely new entry into the Killzone series. None of these franchise games thus far are ports; Resistance, Uncharted, and Killzone are all entirely new entries into their respective series.

I don't care how awesome looking or how many upgrades this thing has - if its selection of games is the same as the current PSP, it's a no-go for me.

I like my PSP. I just don't like that the five games I have for it represent all I want out of the PSP library. >.<

FF Dissidia 2 (whatever it's called now) BETTER be made for this on release or else I'll be disappointed, and another MGS game.

...A little late for that seeing as Duodecim comes out in March don't ya think. You'll still eb able to play it on the NGP if ya download it but I doubt they'd remake the game. Now...Dissidia 3 on this sucker would be an instant purchase for sure.

Uncharted, eh?
I might consider it later on.
But so far neither this nor the 3DS have me in the buyers line.

I am so sold on this, including two touch screens was genius as well. Psn allows for probably the most diverse console library out there, with a touch screen for ps minis(iphone app style games) and playstation suite games, moderately priced psn titles to uncharted, and having the entire psp library already. The touch pad allows for new game mechanics and use of touch without dirtying your screen or blocking your view of the amazing graphics. This one is a winner, i mean it is their second handheld, their second console did pretty well too!

EDIT:
Oh, for the love of all that is holy in gaming, stop trying to hype me.

I'm not a handheld gamer, damnit! I bought my DS as an impulse buy and I only play it once a year on the family vacation, and I just never brought myself to buy a PSP. I don't want to fall for it again, damnit!

But holy mackerel, that's gorgeous handheld game if I ever saw one. The touch controls look...interesting, to say the least, I doubt I would be using them as a viable means for controlling.

As of right now, color me cautiously optimistic/impressed...

This thing had me at dual analogue sticks. Then they threw in a touch screen. And ANOTHER touch screen. AND sixaxis control.

If they sell this thing cheap then they could easily knock the 3DS off the market. But looking at all that technology its bound to be a few pennies worth. -_-
