You've Got to See This Live-Action Simpsons Opening

You could definitely scoff at such an idea, but this live-action Simpsons intro is better than you might think.

The Simpsons has been around for a long, long time. I remember that my mother wouldn't let me watch it when it debuted in 1989 because Bart Simpson was some sort of atheist terrorist. But the animated show created by cartoonist Matt Groening is now in its 22nd season, and it has spawned numerous videogames, a full-length animated film, and even a creative design and advertising agency called Devilfish [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106882-Simpsons-Porn-Parody-Induces-Vomiting] made an amazing recreation of the famous opening to the television series that is surprisingly authentic.

The short video spot was actually made over a year ago for British television channel Sky One, decrying that the satellite TV provider has always been the home of The Simpsons in the U.K. Of course, that means that many people outside of the British Isles may not have seen the spot created by Devilfish, which is something worth rectifying here.

Does anyone else suddenly think that a Simpson live-action film might not be a horrible idea?

For what it's worth, Devilfish also made a commercial for the FX Western cop show Justified that excellently references the whole "Han Shot First" fiasco. The spot ran during the Super Bowl this year, but here it is for your viewing pleasure:

Yep, I'm pretty sure I'd have a good time throwing back a few with the guys at Devilfish.

Talk about old news. They played that opening about a year and half ago on Fox(US) before an episode.
The opening itself been around on youtube for at least 2 years.

I saw this when it was first aired on Sky. It is really good. Not too sure it justifies a live action movie though... we all know how the flintstones went.

Never watched justified, but I might be interested in it now. Anyone tell me if its any good?

Not only seconded, but I further add that this is yet another article trying to grab some page views by throwing a popular word in the title ie, Simpsons. Seriously, is the Escapist THAT strapped for cash that it has to stoop so low as to completely abandon its original subject matter?

And you needn't have worried; IGN posted it a year ago, so no one missed out.

I don't think the Simpsons justifies a live action film. What makes it good is it's grounding in reality but the capability to explore more insane options. Like a three eyed fish

That was AWESOME! Although I didn't see the plutonium fly into Homer's shirt, among a couple other nitpicks that I don't care about. Time to find it on youtube and post it on facebook!

Well, I'd never seen it. Well done even speaking as someone who dislikes the Simpsons.

It's posts like this that have me wondering: is the Escapist starting to incorporate random shit as 'news' that belongs in the staff's twitter feeds?

Stories have become much shorter, less timely (e.g. Rooster Teeth's "Immersion" series had been out for months before it was posted as 'news' here), and overwhelmingly are just being re-iterated and linked from other blogs like Destructoid, Joystiq, ArsTechnica, and Kotaku.

This is very much old news, but if people haven't seen it, there's no harm done...
While that's true, it doesn't change that one comes to a news site for 'news'. Mind, this comment thread is posted in the "News Room".

I'd be in favour of separate area for the best of the internet, TV and film away from news...

That Simpsons thing is, easily, about 5 years old. Regardless, it was great to see it again, thanks!

Now that I could get behind. Sadly, I think the Escapist has moved away from its 'news' roots in favor of... What does the Escapist actually bill itself as now?

A clean, organized, and accessible layout like ArsTechnica [http://www.arstechnica.com/], Rooster Teeth [http://www.roosterteeth.com/], or the BBC [http://www.bbc.co.uk/] would make all the difference in the world. Guess my real gripe here is the lack of a decent content management system.

But is this really any worse than them making a new post for zombie pigs of fucking beds alone in Minecraft?
