CW's New Angel TV Show Sounds Infernally Bad

The CW is making a TV show about an angel who is named (seriously) Dashiell Coffee and works as a lawyer.

Supernatural TV shows are all the rage these days, especially with the CW network, which has always been enamored with that type of programming. The newest show that the channel's announced, Heavenly, is certainly following the trend, as it's going to be about an Angel who starts working as a lawyer.

io9 is reporting that the show will star Lauren Cohan (recently of <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Vampire-Diaries-Complete-First-Season/dp/B002JVWR9U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1300476779&sr=8-2>The Vampire Diaries ) as Lily DeMarco, an absurdly attractive lawyer who operates out of San Francisco. Lily has a law partner named "Dashiell Coffee" (ugh), and he's an angel who was turned human. As a result, Dashiell (played by Ben Aldridge) is hell-bent on saving his clients' souls. Of course, the cast will be rounded out by other ridiculously pretty people: Elizabeth Ho and Owen Moretti.

Let's be honest, better shows have been made out of weaker premises. But this is the CW, a network that isn't exactly known for its programming quality, and the show doesn't really sound all that amazing. We'll have to wait for the series' premiere before casting final judgment, though it should be noted that Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime is already using a pretty similar scenario. As a native San Franciscan, however, I'm willing to give some kudos to the <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dashiell_Hammett>Dashiell Hammett reference (since the author is one of the city's proudest adopted sons) ... But it's still pretty painful.

This show is possibly one of the most derivative shows I have ever heard of. Can't wait to see how it goes.

That's right kids, even if you killed a bunch of people, if your lawyer manages to get you off the hook you get to go to heaven.

That last time I saw someone with wings as a lawyer I loved it to death. I however do not expect that this will have the same level of enjoyment.

Angel Lawyer?

Surely someone's just divided by 0?
I think someone just multiplied by by zero.

That might explain the sudden onset of roaring emptiness within me...

So Now Angels have gone the way of vampires and werewolves *sigh* !
Personally...I like the sound of Vampires and Werewolves face to face in the courtroom, phoenix Wright style.

I would write off the CW Network as naught but a howling wasteland of a network with no good shows at all, but that's the network that Supernatural currently resides on, so I'll dismiss it as a howling wasteland of a network that only has one good show to its name. Because Supernatural is some damn good television (and fond of meta-humor in a way that few shows are, which cracks me up to no end). It was greatly amusing watching Sam and Dean take the piss out of the recent trend of Twilight-inspired vampire properties earlier this season (in the hilariously titled episode "Live Free or Twi-hard").

If only this new abomination of a show was about those angels, it might actually be good! The available evidence sadly suggests that everyone dismissing it as terrible before watching it has the right idea though.

Those angels were way more interesting. I don't mind the judeo chrstian bent, or any bent for that matter, as long as it is done well, and Supernatural (Cohan had a small bit in there too, if I remember correctly) realy pulled it together with their mythology.

What bothers me more though is that Cohan is actually a quality actress that doesn't seem to be getting the roles she deserves, and now she's starring on Touched by an Angel meets The Practice...but neutered. But hey, that's life, I guess.

Nah, it was just some extra color. I created the image for a studio portraiture class last semester; since there's no official images for this show yet, I just decided to use this image

This

I can pretty much say if angels existed and were in this situation I think the last thing they would be doing would be becoming a lawyer. The premise of someone with the mental perspective of an angel being human is a very scary thought. Have these people even read the bible :S According to the texts Angels don't look like that. They are more close to lovecraftian horrors although some use wings to cover thier mind melting appearance. Not someone I would want to share my starbucks with.

Edit, just read that it was the OP's pic the complaint still applies though. :p
