Minecraft Players Get Blocky Yet Adorable Pet Wolves

The blocklike cows and sheep of Minecraft now have a blocklike natural predator to contend with.

Minecraft has a lot of things in the game already. But one thing it doesn't yet have are adorable little wolves, much like the kind found in Okamiden [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108489-Okamiden-Launch-Trailer-Makes-You-Want-to-Hug-a-Puppy]. That's about to change.

PC Gamer [http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/03/18/new-minecraft-dev-video-shows-pet-wolves/] caught this video uploaded by Mojang programmer Jens "Jeb" Bergensten showing off the developers' work on adding wolves to the game. They're just as blocky as any other Minecraft denizen, but they're small! And gray! And furry!

Frankly speaking, they're adorable. I'm surprised at how expressive they seem, even in their low-res Minecraft environment. They cock their heads at the player, they shake off water, and they hunt cows in packs at the behest of the player's mighty punch.

No word on when they'll be added to the game, but when they are we can all rest assured that they will indeed be very very cute. Now add a Chibiterasu version, please?

They look pretty funny. That's cool that they attack other animals for you. Maybe theyd defend against spiders and other such things? Cant wait until fortress craft comes out. It's gonna be sweeet

Finally, a use for cows other than their hides. I shall name my wolf... wolf.

Sorry, I'm just never ahead of the news except this once. :p

OT: I can't wait to see the epic LP segments where the player tames and loses a dog in the same video. Especially if they were planning to treat it like the next Dogmeat.

This is straight up the best thing I've seen all week... can't wait for them to turn up in-game.

Well, cows are also useful for milk, which is used in making cake, or if you have cooking mods like I do, milk is used in pies, butter, and cheese (the latter two being used in more complex recipes).

The wolves look cute, but it's nothing modders haven't already made ages ago. Mo' Creatures is something to look at for those who want more animals and mobs. And of course, the Aether mod will blow Mojang's Nether out of the water.

This is the reason why I don't want to get Mo' Creatures. Then I can't get excited about having a doggeh to follow me around and kill cows for me!

Well, they're cool, but as for how they look... Well, thank God for texture packs.

Also: I forsee a problem with them getting stuck down mines, behind corners, etc. Then I hear them whining 2 days later, begging for rescue. O_O
