The Almighty Thor Looks Even Worse Than Titanic 2

The Asylum is back, baby, and this time its mockbuster crosshairs are aimed at the upcoming Marvel Comics movie Thor.

The last time we heard from The Asylum, it was back in August, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/102561-Titanic-2-Looks-So-Bad-Its-Terrible>when the company unveiled Titanic 2. Since then, The Asylum has released some other ... uh, let's call them "gems" ... like Battle of Los Angeles and Anneliese: The Exorcist Tapes. However, it's latest project is called The Almighty Thor and it looks even more delightfully dreadful than Titanic 2 did.

The movie is set to star Kevin Nash, Patricia Velasquez, Cody Deal, and Richard Grieco. Yes, you read that right: Richard "If Looks Could Kill" Grieco is going to play Loki. Honestly, the trailer's more than a little hard to understand, since it only shows nonsensical clips (Thor apparently decides to use an uzi while fighting things that look like hammerhead sharks that can burrow through concrete).

Here's the basic summary of the movie, as provided by The Asylum: When the demon god Loki destroys the fortress of Valhalla and steals the Hammer of Invincibility, only the young hero Thor can protect Earth from armageddon.

Needless to say, this whole thing looks absolutely ridiculous. Almighty Thor is set to simultaneously <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Almighty-Thor-Cody-Deal/dp/B004MOLFR2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1303490257&sr=8-1>debut on DVD and air on Syfy come May 10th. If there was ever a prime candidate for Bad Movie Night, this is it.

Wait, couldnt Marvel sue over its name?

Marvel's Thor is known as The Almighty Thor, and the entertainment industry doesnt like name confusion.

I love a "so bad it's good" movie as much as the next guy, but crap like this irks me a bit. The movie serves no purpose other than trying to profit off the release of the actual Thor movie on May 6th. I forget where I was reading the list but I could help noticing that for nearly every major blockbuster over the last few years there was a low budget crap fest released right along side it in the same year with an eerily similar name. (most of them put out by SyFy)

It's an odd thing to be aggravated about I know.

Marvel's is "The Mighty Thor". Since Thor, as a mythological figure, is public domain, changing that one word may be enough.

I'm sort of disappointed that the summary decided to use the word 'armageddon' instead of Ragnarok...

And I, uh... what is this?
I thought it was just a sketch or a mock trailer, but apparently it isn't?

and Raul Juliana as M. Bison is the best damn Bison I've ever seen outside of the game).

I think that's why it gets such a panning. I love Street Fighter, and have a shrine to Kylie; but dear god that movie was awful, EXCEPT for when Raul Julia was in a scene and then he shamelessly stole the entire thing.

It was his last film though. :(

Again, why are these people allowed to make movies?

That said, they can turn into a "so terrible it's awesome" thing if you're in good company.
