Save 61% On Doctor Who At Amazon Today

Prepare to break out your wallets, because Amazon's got some major discounts on Doctor Who today.

Amazon's got a pretty sweet theme for its Gold Box Deals this week: "BBC Week". The deals are, presumably, going to feature some pretty sweet discounts on popular BBC shows from now until Friday, and Amazon's starting things off with greatly reduced prices on the first four seasons of Doctor Who.

Seasons One through Four have been reduced to $31.49 each, which is pretty inexpensive compared to how much they normally go for. Of course, the <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Doctor-Who-Complete-Matt-Smith/dp/B003EV6DBM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303751724&sr=8-1>Season Five, <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Who-Christmas-Matt-Smith/dp/B004FUYSV8/ref=ntt_tv_ep_opt_002>A Christmas Carol, and <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Doctor-Who-Complete-Specials-Planet/dp/B002ZHKZEM/ref=ntt_tv_ep_opt_001>the various TV specials weren't discounted (though, who knows, maybe they will be later this week).

This is certainly a promising start to a week of sales, though now I'm a little curious what else Amazon will put into its Gold Box deals. <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Being-Human-Season-Russell-Tovey/dp/B003IMERF6/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1303752377&sr=1-1>Being Human and <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Sherlock-Season-One-Benedict-Cumberbatch/dp/B004132HZS/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1303752404&sr=1-1>Sherlock seem like relatively safe bets. Personally, I'm hoping <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Black-Books-Dylan-Moran/dp/B000TSTEPA/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1303752242&sr=1-1>Black Books will be discounted. What about you folks? What BBC show would you snatch up if its price was reduced?

I'm just going to get the two obligatory answers out of the way:
-Black Adder
-Red Dwarf

For me though (since I already own those) I'll say All Creatures Great and Small

Nothing, really.

Top Gear and Doctor Who are both on Netflix.

and buying TV shows is absurd to me. The only one I own is Futurama. And that was 50% off. And comes with a giant plastic Bender head. and a birthday present, too.

Most definitely 'Sherlock', it's one of the few shows I've actually made any effort to watch recently (Dr Who being the other oddly enough). In fact, as it's currently priced at £6.99 I think I'll treat myself now...good times!

Also, like the shout out for Black Books, love(d?) that show with a giggly passion and the DVD's are all worth buying for the gag reels alone. Seriously.

EDIT; For the record, I would add the classics like Blackadder, Yes Minister, State of Play (the show that spawned the recent film), The Thick of It (top notch swearing involved) and so on but they're already on my shelf and should be on yours (yes, you!) as well.

BBC owns Red Dwarf?

OT: I haven't watched real TV in a long, long time.

EDIT: Any (and all) of the old Fry and Laurie stuff. Fucking comedy gold.

Ah, the fake special, how adorable. Granted, that little extra discount is nice (and sadly not shown on the Canada site), but I've yet to see this so called 'list price' in any store I've ever visited, as every Doctor Who (and BBC box with the same amount of content) has hovered around 40-50 bucks.

Really, I am getting tired of these type of "deals."

It's hard to justify paying for these BBC DVDs considering how many of them are available on Netflix Streaming and also the absurd amount of BBC and other British content that is on Youtube in full copyright infringing glory. Still, if it brings Dr. Who to more people then all the power to them. Speaking of, I need to get into the new season on BBC America.

Actually, I've seen several retailers charge full MSRP (sometimes more, like at Borders).

Seasons 1-4 of the new Dr Who are available on Netflix streaming which is less than $10 per month. Season 5 can be downloaded via Xbox Live for less than $20.

I already have 1-4, so this doesn't help me any.

Although, I do hope they do put the specials on sale eventually, I'm still missing those and would love to get them for my birthday later in the summer.

Black Books isn't a BBC show so it won't be discounted i would think, it was only distributed in america by the BBC. Shame really its a great show.

This is a terrible deal. I bought every single season, including Matt Smith's first and in HD for 9.99$ each during an itunes special. Even now they're only like 14$ each on itunes. The dvds plain are not worth the price.
