Kobold's Quest Lets Players Steal Babies, Collect Their Skulls

[vimeo=22779922]

Kobold's Quest is a multiplayer platformer that'll see players feeding babies to monsters while competing for their skulls.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii [http://suckerfreegames.com], if the goal of Mario and pals were to steal babies so that a monster could eat them. Players of Kobold's Quest have to fill their Kobold Commander's hunger, and if isn't with human babies they'll become the meal themselves. Seems logical to me.

Kobold's Quest is a four-player, capture-the-flag style platformer. Players each take on the role of a different color Kobold and must cooperate to make it to a baby's lair, er... nursery, by taking on defenders such as knights and giant birds while avoiding traps. However, once the baby is picked up, the game becomes competitive and players will turn on each other to become he who hands the baby in to the Kobold Commander.

Suckerfree has set up a fan-funding page on IndieGoGo [http://www.indiegogo.com/Kobolds-Quest] to help bring the game to its planned late June release on Xbox Live Indie Games. Out-of-pocket funding has apparently run dry for the indie studio, so it has a goal of $1,000 to keep things moving. Pledging enough money can net the donator every game Suckerfree ever releases, and the ability to design an unlockable level.

It looks like a fun co-op/head-to-head title and there's no way you can hate Kobold's Quest's premise. It's a little dark, but in reality Kobolds do eat babies, so that's life. You can check out the funding page here [http://www.indiegogo.com/Kobolds-Quest] if you'd like to help out.

I miss URealms... :(

OT: This game sounds like it's just trying to end up on Fox...

Reminds me of the "Kobold's Ate My Baby" mini pack-game that used to be a staple of brick and mortar PnP RPG shops ... it also reminds me somewhat of Tom Proudfoot's work (which I never tried, but remember hearing about).

Well, hello, rip-off of Kobolds Ate My Baby!, the tabletop role-playing game about noseless kobolds gathering babies to feed their commander so he doesn't eat them instead. How's tricks?

I was going to donate, but then I saw the gameplay footage. It just looks incredibly clunky, and much more like a free Flash game than something that you would pay for.

Ah, here we see abstraction at work!

Remember a few months ago all the anger directed at that new school shooter mod and its abhorrent creator? Here's the article in question for those of you have forgotten:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108065-Inside-the-Sick-Mind-of-a-School-Shooter-Mod

Note there what Checkerboarded Studios and Mr.Pawnstick did wrong.

1: Mr.Pawnstick admitted and was quite adamant that School Shooter: North American Tour 2012 was designed to cause offense, or at the very least, was offensive and he didn't care who thought so.

2: The creators picked a subject guaranteed to raise hackles, however, they didn't do what Suckerfree Games have done here and make it 'cutesy' i.e. abstract.

If the baby kidnapping/killing were done in the style of the aforementioned school shooter mod? "Disgusting! It's dragging gaming into the mud! RARRGH I believe in free speech -except- for this guy etcetera."

Give it some funny visuals and a quirky narrator? "Lol, baby killing."

Still, not saying this looks like a bad game, just thought people's thinking on it was interesting.

So... we're making a gritty version of [a href=http://www.koboldsatemybaby.com/]Steve Jackson[/a] games?
All hail king Torg!

Pinkey Nickles was the greatest smelliest kobold i ever played as.

The hamsters at the escapist must need a break. Took me like 10 tries to load this page.
