L.A. Noire is a "Powerful New Franchise" for Take-Two

Take-Two Interactive isn't revealing any sales numbers but is willing to say that it sees L.A. Noire [http://www.amazon.com/L-Noire-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0J5UQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306281850&sr=8-1] as "another strong franchise" for the company.

Rockstar doesn't very often miss the mark. It's best known for the Midnight Club [http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV-Xbox-360/dp/B000FRU1UM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306281877&sr=8-1], he did suggest during the company's fourth quarter earnings call that things are looking good for the game.

"We certainly don't want to be subject to [comparing] all of our new releases of new franchises against the extraordiany success of Red Dead Redemption. Every title stands alone. We have every reason to believe L.A. Noire is another strong franchise for this company," Zelnick said.

"No matter how you slice it, it's a very successful release," he continued. "To be able to say that again is extraordinary. This management team is just immensely grateful to Rockstar for delivering another superb title and 2K [Games] for all the franchises they've been delivering as of late. One can never take that for granted. The hit ratio of this group is extraordinary."

One-offs are a relative rarity in the industry today so while a game doesn't have to be a super-smash hit to earn a sequel, calling it a "powerful new franchise" as Zelnick did does suggest that it's doing at least reasonably well. That's not exactly a surprise given all the positive conversation that L.A. Noire has churned up over the past week, and while not every great game needs a sequel [I can think of one Take-Two game in particular that fits that description], I don't imagine that too many gamers will be unhappy with the thought of more Noire.

I would be interested in a sequel. L.A. Noire was good enough to keep my attention from start to finish but there's still a lot of room to improve. Rockstar definitely knows how to build upon and polish a game so consider me tentatively optimistic.

I actually watched a walkthrough from case 1 to 10, and I can say without a doubt that L.A Noire is the best game in its genre, whatever that is. If you want to feel like dick tracy without all of the improbability, than this is your game. Hell, if you want a game to get you started into the interactive movie or interactive experience or whatever genre than this is definitely the game to do it. Just make sure you're really good at reading facial expressions, because a lot of people you interview have great poker faces.

Wait... Take-Two? I thought Team Bondi developed it?

Also, i'm extremely glad to see L.A. Noire has done so well. I love it to bits and we need more of this "point and click adventure" with a heavy focus on story and mystery. Not to mention the sheer novelty of being on the right side of the law for once. Being Cole Phelps gave me a totally different feeling and sense of immersion than being Niko Belic or even John Marston.

I'd love sequels to Noire and Red Dead. Both are, IMO, truly fantastic titles. Both games have more than enough possible stories already based on how each game concluded.

I dunno Hankman...I think the jury is still out on that one until the sales figures are released. I've heard that it made a killing though.

So much possibility for sequels:

NY Noire: Take's place during the 70's when Times Square was lined up with snuff theatres and it was a sleezy town with corrupt police at an all time high and the last decade of the great 5 mob families being at the height of their power.

Chicago Noire: Prohabition era detective work? Lets do this

Miami Noire: The 80's as immigrants from Cuba make their way to Miami and the booming druge trade as well as the nightclub scene.

Las Vegas Noire: During the 70's when the casino's were owned by the mob

Texas Noire: Modern times dealing with the immigrants smuggling into the USA as well as drug cartels people die in the desert every day as well as the drug war happening in Mexico would also make it a good place to set it in.

Oh come on! If by "one Take-Two game" you mean Bioshock, Bioshock 2 was a great game. The story of the second game didn't surpass the sheer novelty of the atmosphere of Rapture in the first game, but the gameplay of Bioshock 2 far surpassed that of the first Bioshock. And let's not forget the addition of an entire multiplayer mode that ended up being very respectable and novel in its own right.

Anyway, I don't really think that L.A. Noire needs a franchise (not that I don't trust Rockstar to pull it off spectacularly - they certainty would). It was a unique game, just like Red Dead Redemption (granted, RDR is a sequel, but its dramatic shift in tone and gameplay from the first game made it, to me, a wholly separate game) and I think Rockstar should continue this run of new, unique, standalone games.

Well, we'll solve this enigma soon enough. I don't think anyone needs to play detective to figure out its success.

Typo. ;)

On-Topic: I'm heartily enjoying L.A. Noire.
Why shouldn't everybody else be, eh?

OK, everyone needs to get out of this thread. There will be no puns in these here threads. I consider myself a member of the pun police.

I'm really wanting to play this game
the IGN review did say that there was no other game like it until a sequel comes out
a sequel that could improve on some of the odder game mechanics that the first apparently fell short on
...which I do want to judge for myself! ack, well Gamefly will only be sending me Crysis 2 and Lego PotC for now, but soon!

Yes, but there's a difference between a developer and a publisher.

Oh, in that case, we'll stop now, officer.
