E3 Appearance Seems Unlikely for The Last Guardian

With no confirmed appearance and the game's director staying in Japan, it seems Team Ico's latest project may pass on E3.

[a href="http://www.amazon.com/Last-Guardian-Playstation-3/dp/B002BSA18K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1303319869&sr=8-3"] The Last Guardian[/a] game director Fumito Ueda (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus), recently announced on Twitter that he will not fly out to Los Angeles to attend this year's conference, and it's unlikely Sony will show a demo or new footage of the game without him present. After all, Sony press conferences have a history of putting a game's creator front-and-center when presenting. Although, that doesn't mean it's completely out of the realm of possibility.

The Last Guardian's strong showing at Tokyo Game Show in September made the much-anticipated game seem just around the corner. However, Sony pulling the game, last minute, from March's Game Developers Conference made an imminent release doubtful. It's safe to assume progress slowed on the game, after the recent quakes and power outages in Tokyo. Last month, [a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109412-Sony-Delays-Both-Last-Guardian-and-Ico-SotC-Collection"]Team Ico pushed back[/a] both The Last Guardian and [a href="http://www.amazon.com/ICO-Shadow-Colossus-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0J5FG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1303319869&sr=8-2"]the HD Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection[/a] - no release window was given for either.

After SotC left gamers in awe of what the creative minds at Team Ico can do with old hardware, Team Ico became one of Sony's most beloved studios. Since rumors of the game's development circulated in early 2008, Team Ico fans have had a long wait for details and footage. The last of which was shown nearly a year ago at Tokyo Game Show, which will likely be home to whatever Ueda unveils next -- assuming it's not already shown at this year's E3.

Take as long as you need Ueda. I'll wait for as long as you need to make another amazing game that a grand total of 3 people will buy. Myself included.

They haven't released a game since 2005? Perhaps The Last Guardian could be the next Duke Nukem Forever...

While I'm willing to believe they might not show new footage without him, I still think Sony is going to have to pull out all the stops at E3 to make up for hacking ill will and to try to keep up with whatever Nintendo shows off(most likely the new system). Since they do need all the help they can get I still wouldn't be surprised if they at least mentioned it.

Put me down for another one of those three purchases. I'd rather wait another year for a brilliant game than buy some thing half-arsed tomorrow.

But...but....I wanna know what's going on with that game....

Well they can take their time on it, it looks really ambitious so I don't want them to rush the game just for the sake of us and sacrifice something in return.

Take as long as you want and release it on whatever system you want. If I don't have the system, I'll buy it the day your game comes out. If I have to wait ten years, I'll do it with a big smile on my face.

God I love Team Ico.

Hell, I'll wait until next year if I have to to play TLG. I'm really psyched for it, but I don't want it to suck.

Does anyone ever think that the massive pressure that's been put on team ICO as creators of some of the most artistic games ever has anything to do with their extremely long development time.

I mean, obviously if people expect a lot from you, you need to do a good job to exceed their expectations, but is Fumito Ueda suffering from exceptionally strong artist frustration due to the hype behind the game?

Is it just me, or do a lot of people seem to be skipping E3, especially this year? Might be a sign that the companies running E3 have sucked all the fun out and run it into the ground...

Anyway, I do wish they'd hurry up with at least the remakes of Ico and Shadow. I've always wanted to play them.

Well at least they're trying to make a working game unlike most developers and publishers who'd just release a game and then patch it up later.
That said I don't get Team ICO honestly, ICO was just a dull game and I never played SotC although I still want to. People seem to love their games but ***** about other games that does the same thing.
ICO was just a bland boring escort mission with dodgy platforming and puzzles and bad controls.
SotC was just big bosses after big bosses that took 1 hour to climb and stab then you rinse and repeat.
Honestly I'm not really excited for Team ICO's game(s) but I do love them for at least trying to be daring and taking their time to realize their games potential.
Kudos to you Ueda and Team ICO, Kudos.
