Leisure Suit Larry Returns Later This Year

Luckless love machine Leisure Suit Larry is making a big return this summer in his original incarnation, with none other than Al Lowe himself at the wheel.

Gamers of a certain vintage will recall, probably fondly, the fumbling adventures of Larry Laffer, the most desperate-to-get-laid videogame character of a generation. He sprung to life in the mid-80s and soon became one of Sierra's most famous and popular videogame characters, although his last two appearances - Box Office Bust [http://www.amazon.com/Leisure-Suite-Larry-Magna-Laude-Pc/dp/B0027FFRI6/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1307392108&sr=8-9], which featured neither series creator Lowe nor the original Larry Laffer character - were both embarrassments.

But the upcoming revival by The Land of the Lounge Lizards [http://www.replaygamesinc.com/], which upgraded the blocky 16-color EGA/Tandy graphics to stunning 256-color VGA.

"It's no fun telling people who want to play your games that their only recourse is to pirate them," Lowe said. "Finally, Larry leaves his digital dungeon to delight those too young (or too smart) to play it way back when."

"So many people enjoyed and were influenced by Larry's original adventure that it's an absolute pleasure to bring the smooth-talking charmer back to his legions of fans, a whole new generation of players and unimpressed women in bars and nightclubs everywhere," added Replay CEO Paul Trowe. "Working with Al means you can be sure the game is exactly how he intended it to be seen. It plays as smoothly as one of Larry's pick up lines."

That's a bit alarming, but I'm optimistic that it'll all work out for the best anyway. Platforms aren't yet known but the new, old game is expected to come out later this summer.

Oh man, there was no part of that last quote that was not hilarious. Unless he used Larry's pickup lines as an analogy because he actually thinks that "smooth" is a good description for them, in which case it is even more hilarious.

My first thought reading the title was "Does he have to?", Is there even a big enough audience to justify the existence of this?

The reason modern Larries sucked balls was because they were too "PG", with middle-school humor at best, and those shitty minigams because they had no clue how to translate the old style the original games were in to the modern consoles.

In a way, they fucked up so bad, it made Al want to get in and rescue it so it's not a complete laughing stock.

Never played any of the LSL games, but I've heard about them. Hopefully it won't be like Box Office Bust, which I've heard is the equivalent of giving your X-Box 360 herpes.

I think it can safely be said that that is more than we wanted to know.

OT: Never played the games before, and I don't think I will. It just isn't my type of game.

Maybe the game will be hard for the new kids. I hope the kids won't make any boners when playing it.

You missed the point [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ComicallyMissingThePoint?from=Main.CompletelyMissingThePoint] of the damn thing.

They SUPPOSED to be horrible. Tell me, when did you ever hear a good pun unless it was hidden?

I like to think that in the future our outdated currencies of paper money, coins and ones and zeros will be replaced by the eternally valuable dick joke.

This is good times indeed. Just what a populous overwhelmed by mindless pornography needs to understand that adult entertainment can contain both boobs and intelligent humor. I hope that not only does this plan succeed, but that LSL two and three come back with better graphics too.

I dunno. The old Larry games were pretty fun adventures in their own right, and the innuendo had humour and even a certain charm to it. I'm just not sure they'll work today. I'd think about giving a remake a chance though, since Al Lowe is back.

You kids these days and your internet pornography. The picture attached to this article was about all we had when I was a kid. That and a stolen-from-someone's-father copy of a 1976 Playboy.
