Cataclysm Coming To China Next Month

Only seven months after it was released here in the West, World of Warcraft players are about to get their hands on Cataclysm.

World of Warcraft has never exactly had the easiest time in China (remember how Wrath of the Lich King was <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/90087-China-Blocks-WoW-Lich-King-Release>initially blocked and <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/102685-China-Finally-Gives-the-Lich-King-the-Thumbs-Up>then modified it to be "acceptable"?). However, Chinese players will undoubtedly be relieved to hear that the game is coming to their country's mainland on July 12.

Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard Entertainment, was obviously thrilled at the news:

We've always appreciated Chinese gamers' passion and support for World of Warcraft, and we're excited that they'll soon be able to enjoy all of the great new content this expansion has to offer."

With Wrath of the Lich King, it took over a year (nearly two, actually) for China to approve the expansion for release. This time, Cataclysm only took seven months. So, by my (totally made-up) math, it'll only take three or four more expansions before they start getting released around the same time in China as the rest of the world.

Looks like Chinese prisoners have some more gold grinding to do.

...Hey, I'd rather be forced to sit and grind on an MMO every day instead of actually going out and mining gold ore.

...Actually, scratch that, I'd rather mine the god damn ore and take a chance of dying horribly than be forced to sit through that.

Great!, now those convicts can actually have fun while farming that precious virtual gold! Oh wait...

Hey look. China's being stupid again. Big surprise.

Sigh. When will China ever join the developed world?

Unfortunately, they have to do both. They have to mine real ore in the day and virtual ore in the night. (At least, at some of the prisons.) It would suck, but if you're really into virtual mining, it's kind of like a wish-fulfillment camp.
(I'm going to hell for saying that I think.)

I read that as:

We've always appreciated the fact that supporting gold sellers makes us a fuckton of money.

The gold sellers are completely unaffected by this. They sell the gold on NA and EU servers, therefore they play on NA and EU servers.

This just means that WoW players in China, who play on Chinese servers, will finally be getting their hands on Cataclysm.

When they get rid of that pesky thing called Values/Cultural Dissonance. It's not all that easy to get rid of different values and morals engrained into public consciousness.

Here, an article on the problems of localisation.

I wonder if their subscription numbers there will drop as they have in the West once the user base becomes disappointed with Cataclysm. And how they'll try and excuse that with rather stretching rationale again.
