Rumor: Sega Finishing Sonic Wii "Trilogy"

There's could still be one more Sonic game in the vein of his Wii titles coming down Sega's pipeline.

Sega developed two Sonic titles for the Wii called Sonic and the Secret Rings [http://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Black-Knight-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B001D8PFIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309487934&sr=8-1] that were a little different from his regular adventures. In general, the two games weren't received particularly well despite Sega's intent to try something new with its lightning-fast mascot. Like them or hate them, we may be getting a third.

According to a TSSZ News translation of a Sonic Paradise report from a public chat with a Sega Mexico representative (in Spanish), Black Knight and Secret Rings are but two of a three game series. The rep said the games were "part of a trilogy of Sonic titles with the characters involved in fantastic stories." When corrected about the number of games currently in existence, he said: "No, it'll be a trilogy, just you wait."

The rep then reportedly contacted TSSZ and backtracked, saying: "I want to tell you that the comments on the chat that I made yesterday were misinterpretations by the users and listeners from the website ... I've no access to this kind of information in any way." However, his comments were said to be direct citations. The original Sonic Paradise report, with chat log, has been removed, most likely at the rep's kind request.

This isn't the first time a potential Sonic game has been leaked by a Sega rep. very similar way [http://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Generations-Xbox-360/dp/B004X56OU8/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1309489832&sr=1-2].

If true, this rumor doesn't necessarily mean that Sega will release the third Sonic "storybook" game on the Wii. Sonic could bolt his way over to the Wii U to complete the trilogy. Meanwhile, the rep also vaguely hinted that a new Sonic Adventure game would be released on the 3DS. When asked about another game starring Sonic sidekick Tails, he said: "Something like a Sonic Adventure 3....DS? I think that would be a great idea."

No matter what, it'd be a safe bet to say that we're going to see more Sonic titles on every future console. It's just a matter of what they actually end up being. If the idea of a new Sonic game similar to Secret Rings or Black Knight excites or enrages you, just keep in mind it's a rumor until official confirmation.

Hmm...neat, I've heard good things about the storybook games. I need to check them out one day.
As for Sonic Adventure 3, I really hope they go through with that one

Wait, I thought Sega was going to remove their lower quality Sonic games to try to clean up the image. something like games that got an average score below a 7 or something...

yeah, I don't think Secret Rings and Black Knight were well recieved, why would they want to continue the idea? you know, other than just to finish the trilogy because they said it would be a trilogy...

WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?

My old childhood hero...what have they done to you? Why can't they just give you some time off so they can make a truly good game worthy of your reputation?

I thought a game like Colors proved that they could make another Storybook game. (The Colors team made Black Knight and Secret Rings)

If the Colors team made Black Knight and Secret Rings, than it may very well be that the third storybook game is good.

After all, Colors proved to most reviewers that Sonic Team can make a good game after all.

I think it was just an off day for them.

Honestly Sega, i think it's time to Drop the Hedgehog and make another Shinobi Game in the vein of the PS2 version. Seriously, imagine the Tate system on PS3 or 360!

So I'm guessing that there will be a Sonic and the 2 musketeers? Or Sonic and the Fellowship of the (Secret) Ring?

They do and it does, but some people don't follow Sonic enough to know that the last couple of games are good, so they just keep on talking about how his last good game was Sonic 3 & Knuckles...or Sonic CD, or one of the Adventures, or occasionally even Sonic Heroes. Colors and Sonic 4 were both well-received. and the daytime stages in Unleashed were praised too, but it takes a lot to get out of internet punching bag territory.

Yes and no. Some people liked Sonic Colors. But it can't prove anything, because whether or not it was good is subjective. Sonic Colors can't prove that 3D Sonic games can be good any more than Sonic 2006 can prove that 3D Sonic games can be bad. If someone didn't like Sonic Colors, it certainly wouldn't make them think there can be good 3D Sonic games, would it?

Really. Because I've heard more hate for Sonic 4 and Unleashed's daytime levels than praise. I'm not trying to use that to "prove" that they were bad like you're trying to use praise to "prove" that they're good. I'm just saying.

Are you always this rude when you disagree with someone? >_>

My previous post was not a review, so I didn't feel the need to elaborate on why I liked Colors and 4, but maybe I should have elaborated on what Sonic Colors proves: competency. Stuff like "the camera allows you to see where you're going" and "it's not buggy". These things are so basic that it's usually not necessary to mention them, but this is an improvement over games like Shadow the Hedgehog. Whether or not you like something is, of course, always subjective, but basic competency is not, and Sonic Colors proves that they are capable of being competent.

As for "but some people don't follow Sonic enough to know that the last couple of games are good", it stands to reason that people who haven't liked Sonic since the Genesis or Dreamcast probably have not played many post-Dreamcast Sonic games. After all, if you don't like Sonic, why play Sonic? And, yes, the responses to Sonic the Hedgehog 4 that I have seen was mostly positive, and almost every criticism and rant I see for Unleashed says something good about the daytime stages. What I was going for here was that there was some positive feedback from Unleashed. I don't know about you, but I'be yet to see anyone who has anything good to say about Shadow or '06.

By the way, this should save you some time later on, there is an understanding that since all opinions are subjective, it isn't really necessary to point that out when you write one. Not having to put a disclaimer on every opinion you ever write really is a nice time saver.

I wonder if they will make enhanced versions of the first 2 adventure games like ocarina of time for the 3ds?

Say what you will about the Sonic storybook games, but I think it would be neat to see another one. Black Knight really wasn't that bad at all. Come on SEGA you guys can do this!

I was about to say something but... yyyeah, you handled that s--t.

OT: Y'know, as much as we, the gaming populous, like to dump on the "Storybook series" of the franchise, I haven't really heard many bad things from the people that played them. Hell, even the metacritic scores lean more on the side of "average" than "bad", especially concerning "Secret Rings". Maybe I should rent it one of these days or somethin'.
