Tim Langdell Faces Contempt of Court Proceedings

Future Publishing has been given permission to launch contempt of court proceedings against Edge man Tim Langdell.

It just keeps getting worse for Tim Langdell. Following the humiliating beatdown [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/111112-U-K-Judge-Crushes-Tim-Langdell] he suffered at the hands of a U.K. judge in June, Future Publishing, the instigator of said beatdown, has now been given the go-ahead to file a contempt of court action against him. "As has been widely reported, Future was successful before the English High Court in all of its claims against Edge Interactive Media, Edge Games and Dr. Timothy Langdell," the company said in a statement.

"The judgment of Mrs Justice Proudman [which is publicly available here: www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Ch/2011/1489.html [http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Ch/2011/1489.html]] speaks for itself," the statement continues. "In addition to finding in Future's favor on every point, the Court also found that Dr. Langdell had 'concocted' evidence to support his case. Future has therefore been given permission to bring proceedings against Dr. Langdell for contempt of court."

The statement also notes that Langdell's counterclaim against Future has been dismissed and that at this point it has not received any notification of follow-up actions filed by Langdell or Edge Games in either the U.S. or the U.K.

Following his courtroom demolition, Langdell claimed that his enthusiastically litigious behavior had been forced upon him by the terms of his contract with Future Publishing and now that he is no longer bound by those chains, he can act in a manner more befitting someone so dedicated to the indie development scene. First on that list is "extending an olive branch" to Mobigame, the maker of the popular Edge Games [http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/edge/id300896018?mt=8] website even provides a link to Edge on the App Store, along with the note that "Mobigame's games rock." But Mobigame boss David Papazian isn't buying it.

"We have no connection to Edge games (and we don't want one). We believe this is a cynical attempt by Tim Langdell to generate sympathy for his court case. He will try to use the argument 'Future made me do it' for his appeal against the Future lawsuit," Papazian told Eurogamer [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-07-22-mobigame-slams-langdell-edge]. "We are certain that he will lose again, and he will probably be put in jail."

Yesterday, jail would have seemed a little far-fetched. Today? I'm not so sure.

Looks like Langdell just *puts on shades* went past the point of no return.

Wait, I screwed it up. Edged... away? Is far from the edge? Well, something like that.

Also, Mrs Justice? I thought Justice was the honorific by itself.

Looks like Langdell is... *puts on shades* ...living on the edge.

How'd I do?

OT: I almost feel sorry for him, but he kind of brought it on himself.

Jail for Dr Langdell?

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. It's interesting that he attempted to apply his trademark trolling against Future publishing of all companies. Given the size and resources of Future perhaps an asylum would be a better place for him than prison?

I'm glad Future decided to take his efforts against them personally, I hope they win.

From the site:

'"Children are our future." EDGE/THE EDGE donates 10% of its profits to charities and institutions for the benefit of children in need, at-risk children and sick children.'

Uhm... I might be mistaken, but I didn't think they had any profits?

Hah, it's about time karma came back to bite this fuckbag in the ass. I would say he pretty much deserves what he gets in this case.

Quite a lot. The man claims to own the word "Edge", so he's been targeting games like Edge, magazines like EDGE (owned by Future), and on games that have "EDGE" in their title, he's forced them to register it under his patent. So a game like Edge of Twilight was pretty much a patent of EDGE games, the studio he owns (But hasn't made a game in a pretty long time.). This thing dates all the way back to around Mirror's Edge in 2008. Langdell sued EA, and EDGE magazine printed an article on the game to divert his bullshit called "Mirror's. A Game By Edge." Eventually, EA counter-sued, and Langdell is pretty much going up shit creek without a paddle.

At least that's what I recall of it. Correct me if I missed a few things.

huh, sounds like a real dick, but then again their's always people out there that like to patent stuff that they can't possibly keep track of(like that Spanish woman who tried to claim ownership of the sun, man, tax collection was gonna be a ***** right there.)

Oh noes! What will become of Edge Games if Langdell goes to jail?

Oh, wait. I realized I don't care what happens to a company that's produced nothing but frivolous lawsuits for more than a decade, who seemingly only just released a game to have some shred of evidence to point towards their being a game company, and whose sole product appears to be a rip-off.

So, then! Dr. Langdell? I think you'll make a (evil glower, sinister chuckle) fine example.

I can't believe no one else has done this, especially after my post with Ms. von Karma.

OBJECTION!
