Warner Bros. All Over Lollipop Chainsaw In The West

Not only is Warner Bros. Interactive getting involved, but the publisher is also bringing in a big name when it comes to cult horror/comedy.

When Lollipop Chainsaw was announced last month, it's safe to say that a lot of us were intrigued by the concept of a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader who takes on zombie hordes. However, it wasn't known if the game would actually be released outside of Japan. Thankfully, Warner Bros. has announced that it's going to join forces with the game's Japanese publisher and handle distribution for Western markets.

Warner has also revealed that it's recruited writer/director James Gunn, who made both <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Slither-Widescreen-Michael-Rooker/dp/B000GYI3B8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312261703&sr=8-1>Slither and <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Dawn-Dead-Widescreen-Unrated-Directors/dp/B0002ABURA/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1312261711&sr=1-1>Dawn of the Dead, to "bring his cult humor and edgy storytelling to Lollipop Chainsaw."

OK, first off: If you haven't seen Slither and you're a fan of goofy cult movies and/or Nathan Fillion, you should check it out. Secondly, Suda 51's games are often loaded with a ton of cult humor already, so it sounds like Warner Bros. wants to keep the strange, somewhat absurd feel of the title in place.

Why was this not just a low-budget Japanese movie? Speaking as somebody who has seen a shameful number of low-budget japanese movies the description of this is so very japanese grindhouse.

Damn it, you had to bring up Slither didn't you? That remains the only movie where the commercial gave me nightmares.

Ok so why do they need James Gunn? Do you think they are going to change the story for western audiences? Or is it to just change aspects of the story that they think we won't like? Kind of like how they changed the main char of Neir from her androginous bother to buff dad.

Reminds me too much of Onichanbraa, just from the sound of it.
I thought that too, but with some camp, actual talent, and a name like Suda 51 bringing his patented style of cult gossip to bear, Onichanbara might actually have been considerably better. I'm kind of excited for this, in all the pervy campy culty goodness that it's going to bring.
