Batman Gets the Cold Shoulder in New Arkham City Screens

Bats don't like really cold weather. Batman probably isn't too keen either.

Batman's rogue gallery isn't just made up of murderous geniuses whose assorted psychosis revolve around a single theme or thread. No, some of them have super powers as well - powers like Mr. Freeze's ability to survive in fatally low temperatures. Of course, when it comes to Mr. Freeze, it's his freeze ray you really have to watch out for.

These new screens show Batman battling Freeze, as well as discovering the good doctor's handiwork outside the aptly named "Iceberg Lounge." His unlucky victims appear to be former Gotham City cops, at least if the scrawled messages on their chests are to be believed. As an added bonus, there's also a shot of Batman doing what he does best: introducing a masked heavy to his bat-boot on the city's rooftops.

Rocksteady has promised that there will be dozens of hours of gameplay in Arkham City, and with all the villains that make an appearance in the game, it's pretty easy to believe it. As bizarre as it might sound, I'm hoping that some of the bigger-name villains only crop up in side quests, otherwise, the main story might end up a little crowded.

Batman: Arkham City comes out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on October 18th.

Hmmm... the Iceburg Lounge was owned by the Penguin, at least in the comics. Does this mean that they might be working together? Or maybe a hostile takeover? Can't wait to play this. It's gonna be awesome.

That reminds me, I should stop being lazy and pre-order already.

From the relevant trailer, I thought Mr Freeze sounded quite polite, even respectful of Batman, and was only attacking him because he threatened his work. Is this right? I'm not too up-to-date on my Batman backround, so any fans feel free to correct me.

As a 'fdan' of Batman, I'd say you're right on the money. Freeze has always been more or less civil when parleying with the bat, seemingly a trait they gave him to make him seem emotionally cold, to fit in with his schtick.

Also, he looks ridiculous here. I dislike this design very much.

Damn it all... Do I have to stab out my eyes so I can avoid every article with "Batman" in the headline?

I agree with you on that count, his armour looks too big for him. It looks like a human tried on a suit of Krogan battle armour then got himself locked in a deep-freeze.

True that.

Yeah, I think it's the size of the dome piece that's throwing me off. It's unnecessarily large and cumbersome, imo.

Ha, the first screenshot looks kinda derpy. The reflections in his goggles make it look like his pupils are pointing in different directions. I'm actually thinking it may have been intentional. I'm just not sure why.

True it's better than that monstrosity they put Arnold in but it's no where as cool as this.

For me this is how Mr freeze should look

AAAUUUGGGHHH!!! Come on, man! That's right up there with "Have an ice day!" Why, man? Why?!?

OT: I don't think the suit looks too bad. Still, nothing can beat the animated series version.

All of you hunks need to COOL IT!

Mr Freeze is a very decent villain. My only gripe is with his surname: Victor FRIES (pron. freese). That's just lazy. They may aswell have called Bruce, Bruce Bats. Or the Killer Croc Waylon Gator.

Anyway, apart from the poor surname which can't be helped; I think this is very nice. Freeze has always been about the Pathos element. All he wants is to ressurect/cure his comatose wife. I think that's why he developed the cooling forumla; to cryogenically freeze her until he found a cure to her random illness. He froze her, got hurt in an accident involving his coolant; and now he's eternally screwed!

Also, the first pic may be an attempt to give him a "gecko" look. His goggles may allow him to see tonnes of data simultaneoulsy from all over the place; like he's always got loads of data filing into his field of vision from multiple angles.

Like Ozymandias (Watchmen) watching dozens of televisions at once, this could be a sign of his advanced intellect (i.e. the ability to process loads of data at once).

Damn, I'm so juiced up for this game.

Just pouring a whey protein & creatine mixed shake to help me deal with the pump I'm automatically getting from reading this article.

Can we just leave it at "YES, Arkham City is going to have every Batman villain and character that matters"? Also, the MANY October-November releases this year are tempting me in a bad way. I have school, dammit! I don't have time to play Saints Row the Third, this, Sonic Generations, Zelda Skyward Sword, and Skyrim!

I suggest just buying Ramen and vitamins for your dietary needs. Cheapest grocery plan I've ever come up with so far. Also, I like the design it looks a little more viable(I know weird choice of word) because of it's size and clunkiness. It looks more like it's one of a kind and has a kind of "ironworks" look about it.
