Offers DLC Discount Through New Season Pass

Why buy Gears of War 3 DLC packs individually, when you can buy them all at once for less money?

You'll be able to get a discount for Gears of War 3's [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002I0H79C/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_d0_g63_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0SGWZGQAVSA6VMDBMAC3&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846] DLC, as long as you're ok with paying for it all up front. Epic and Microsoft have unveiled a new "season pass" for Gears 3, which will allow access to four DLC packs at a reduced cost.

The pass will cost $30, or 2,400 Microsoft Points, which is supposedly a 33% saving on what it would cost to buy all four packs individually. It's not known at the moment what these packs will actually be; new multiplayer maps are the most likely candidates, as they have made up the bulk of Gears DLC in the past, but new gameplay modes are also possible, such as the "Annex" update for the original Gears of War. As an added incentive, anyone purchasing the season pass will also get an exclusive "liquid metal" weapon pack.

While the details are all very vague at the moment, there's plenty of time for Microsoft and Epic to be more forthcoming, as the season pass won't be available until Gears 3 comes out in September. The first DLC pack will be available in November, with the remaining three coming out at unspecified dates after that.

Out of all the different schemes and systems that developers and publishers are using to monetize DLC properly, this is probably one of the best ideas. Microsoft and Epic get make money on all four packs, and the consumer gets a discount and a neat little downloadable exclusive. Basically, everybody wins.

Gears of War 3 comes out for Xbox 360 on September 20th.

DLC discount? I'll go grab some Hard Reset for $26.99 and have some money left for a snack.

This is how you encourage consumers. A solid plan. Loyal fans who are going to buy the DLC anyway get rewarded with a discount and everyone else can just pick the ones that they want to buy with no penalties. Everyone wins.

Sounds like a good deal, but I probably won't be buying it. Multiplayer Maps never intrest me, I'm more of a Singleplayer Gamer.

So... I'll end up spending close to $90 for this one game and it's DLC. I think I'll just wait; Epic doesn't need my money all at once. Plus, the way things are now, none of my friends will be available for any kind of multiplayer.

Fuck DLC, fuck project ten dollar and fuck companies that leave half the game out so they can charge you for it later. This is a fucking disease that needs to be cut out at the source.

Worth it if all the maps are fully utilized. When they shoveled all the map packs into the All Fronts Map Pack, may people (including me) finally decided it was worth it. The only problem is that I didn't get much use out of them.

Hopefully the new and improved MP and Horde 2.0 in Gears 3 will remedy this.

When you sell it like this, and phrase it this way...You are paying 30$ to get the kind of support Valve gives for 0$. Just doesn't sit right.

Sounds like a step in the right direction. Sadly I don't own a 360, but I really love the Gears series.

I personally hate DLC, most of the time what the offer isn't even worth the money and could easily be given away A la Valve methods.

Especially fucking map packs. 4-5 maps is not worth 15$ and its basicly a de facto subscription fee to continue playing multiplayer.

Fallout type dlc on the other hand. 10-15$ for a 5 hour story arc and no penalties for not buying it? Thats just fine. I can read the review and buy it or not.

But multiplayer maps? What the hell. PC games have been getting map updates since time began and I really dont like the trend of these games charging for them. But I guess I dont have to buy them so I will shut the hell up.

One last thing. I bet these guys have all the map packs done. Oh they will polish them up a bit, but the maps are done. They are just going to release them over time for max profit.

I do like this method of having a kind of "loyalty" scheme, being that if you commit to the game's content you are rewarded for it. I took advantage of the mortal kombat version of this recently, and if gears 3's multiplayer doesn't end up being the insane kind of infuriating the previous games's online was to me, I may be tempted into this as well.

There is one problem. Mortal kombat's season pass was only 1200 points. This is double. So it'll take a little more commitment to invest in it. I wonder how it'll work, because I wouldn't mind seeing more of these kind of deals, especially if they're done in the same way as MK's one, so you don't have to wait for them all to come out, you just buy the season pass, and then whenever your game scans the marketplace on launch, any new content comes up as free.

You mean people get to buy the dlc long before they find out anything about it? What's so great about that? What if it sucks?

But hell, why not try running it. Considering how many people can be suckered into pre-ordering, this is sure to make them money.

I just want to know if I could buy the season pass while the dlc is being released, because I would like to know what I'm pre-ordering before I preorder it.
