Tell Gearbox How They Can Take Your Money

Gearbox is asking the community for suggestions about awesome collectors edition bonuses for Borderlands 2.

Let's all say it: most collectors editions are a bit weak. Art books, bonus discs, and soundtracks are hit or miss, and a lot of collectibles are gimmicky at best. The developers of Borderlands <a href=http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=129937>are asking you to help break this cycle.

Check out what the developer posted on its official forums:

"Hey guys! We would love to hear from you all on what you would like to see in a Borderlands 2 Collectors Edition. Let us know! Leave your comments/suggestions below. We know you guys would have some of the most creative ideas - So we want to hear them. Thanks!"

I'd personally love to see a claptrap figurine. Non-lethal please.

Check out a few suggestions from the community. Don't like them? Sign up and contribute your own ideas.

User jaredhite1 says:

One thing I think might be cool is a book with "The most coveted guns on Pandora", with maybe 20 of the very rarest and best guns (BL2 equivalent of the double anarchy, defiler, aries, serpens, hellfire, ogre, etc.), along with lengthy explanations about their parts, what makes them great, and where to find them. Sure, all that information will be available online soon after the game is released, but I'd still enjoy looking through it when the game is first released and reading any personal touches the developers can add.
User Hohenheim117 says:

The perfect collectors edition for me would be as follows.

-Steelbook game case
-Art book, the bigger the better
-Soundtrack CD
-Decently sized pin and patch set (for each gun manufacturer)
-Some exclusive content (pearlescent weapon(s) or the like, allow to play as original vault hunters)

I would love a little claptrap figurine that doubles up as an alarm clock that talks.

A Siren class BL1 pin-up poster, 50s style.

A Claptrap figurine, duh.

The OST on a physical CD. Not that digital soundtrack download only EA pushes with everything.

A replica Marcus bobblehead.

Here's to hoping they won't go down the bonus content route that can only be obtained by the collector's edition.

If they want to do the bonus content route, wouldn't mind if they get say DLC early or cheaper/free. That way I can still buy it if the extra tangible stuff just isn't worth it.

Really kinda annoying to miss out on game content, because the extras of a collector's edition make it too much money to be worth it.

(Edit: Also don't mind if the extra ingame stuff wasn't all that game-changing/breaking... don't mind cosmetic stuff, or maybe, say extra storage... but extra missions and stuff to me is annoying)

Convert the steel book cases value into something else, I have like 3 games like that and they ain't that great, Hell not one of them even holds the discs right ffs.

Pins and patches, Free dlc, Art book, a 2 disc set of music as good or better than DJ champion-no heaven, and Cage the Elephant's - no rest for the wicked.

Rc lancer or something.

player skins or effects.

A spiffy hat for my head, or team fortress character.

EA/Every dev/publisher who does a digital collector's edition that pops up on Steam. But who is keeping track, right?

OT: I like the idea of the patches for every gun manufacturer. I'd really love some of those Crimson Lance style propaganda posters. Or posters for the different corporations.

I just really like posters.

I really want an Art book. I fucking love concept art. The stuff that made it into the first game's game guide was awesome to look at. I'd kill for a full version of it.

And dance. It must dance. If it does not dance, it is not claptrap.

I know it's been mentioned numerous times before, but I've always thought that soundtracks should come standard, regardless of their quality (yes, even if they're shit, they should still be included. Consistency is key). Otherwise, I dunno. Artbooks are nice, especially for a game with such a recognizable artstyle as Borderlands. Cloth maps are nostalgic (and cool). Making-of DVD's are interesting (and cool). Figurines/statuettes are also cool, but A) can make the bundle very expensive (eg. skyrim), B) can be tacky, and C) are beginning to take up a lot of room on my single not-particularly-spacious shelf. DLC vouchers are good (the arguments of the value of having day-one DLC notwithstanding). Multiplayer-based vouchers are good if you're actually interested in multiplayer, but worthless and a waste of money if you're like me and hate multiplayer. Stickers are ok, but as they're only single-use, their value is somewhat subjective. The list goes on.

I think recreations of things from the game are extremely good, and I'm not just talking about figurines of characters. For instance, my New Vegas Collector's edition came with a themed pack of cards and a poker chip set. They actually allow you to interact with the game on a more physical level, and you can still feel immersed in the world after you've turned your computer off (or, if it's a Ubisoft game, your internet conks out so you can't do fuck all). Dunno what they could do in the same vein for Borderlands though, but I'm sure there's something in the sequel to recreate.

The perfect collector's edition for me is just having the game in my hand. I'm not really a big fan of fancy shiny uber packages with useless stuff.

So Gearbox, give me the game and shut up and take my money already.

#1: No Always-Online DRM
Blizzard and Ubisoft wants the market to do it. I don't.
If you want my cash, don't do it.

As for special edition fluff...hard to say. I generally do not buy special editions.
Perhaps a special item that lets you mute every Claptrap in the game would be nice.

I like these ideas: Lilith is hot and a Marcus Bobblehead would look nice next to my Vault Boy Bobblehead.

A piece or two of DLC would be cool but just a good starting gun (like a level 1 Orange) or class/'nade mod for each class would be cool. I hate it when publishers make gameplay content a special edition or pre-order "bonus" (like LA Noir) but a couple of items to start off with (like Fallout NV) are cool.

Someone had a very clever idea: giving the special edition purchasers the first dlc pack for free. It would be a good way to curb trade-ins...though making it as good as the first will curb trade ins-my friends and I are still playing the first one.

I don't care about artbooks and if the music is anything like borderlands 1 I would never listen to the soundtrack.

Do something out there and different, like put a vinyl record in it with an old fashion type radio serial that chronicles someone's adventure in Pandora.

I'm totally fine with a full size, hardcover art book.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for art books. I love seeing the creative process. :p

I'd assume the biggest priority would be a good sequel.

Be that as it may:

- Steelbook
- DLC weapons/mission
- Making of
- Soundtrack (if variation)
- Claptrap figure

Standard but most likely.
