Howling Reboot Takes Disappointing Direction

The classic werewolf flick The Howling is getting rebooted, only without the intelligence, humor, or cool-looking lycanthropes of the original.

When it comes to great monster movies, 1981's <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Howling-Special-Dee-Wallace-II/dp/B00009OWI1/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317194329&sr=8-1>The Howling still sits at the top of many horror critics' lists. Until now, the movie (and its ensuing series) has managed to avoid the reboot trend that has plagued many other iconic franchises like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. All that's about to change, though, thanks to the upcoming straight-to-DVD reboot <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Howling-Reborn-Landon-Liboiron/dp/B005CA4SEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317194233&sr=8-1>The Howling: Reborn. Based on this trailer, it doesn't look like this movie will have much in common with the original, though it will feature a lot of <a href=http://www.toplessrobot.com/2011/09/a_new_shirtless_werewolf_saga_begins.php>impossibly-fit actors walking around with as little clothing as possible.

Here's the official summary for this toothless reboot:

On the eve of his high school graduation, unremarkable Will Kidman finally bonds with the girl he has long yearned for, reclusive Eliana Wynter. But he also discovers a dark secret from his past... that he is about to become a werewolf. Now, in an effort to fight destiny and save their love as well as their lives, they must battle not only Will's growing blood lust but an army of fearsome beasts bent on killing them... and then, us all.....

The original Howling was a big kick in the pants for Hollywood when it was first released; it was a fairly low-budget horror/comedy film that featured (at the time) pretty crazy special effects. Unfortunately, the sequels it gave rise to have been increasingly bad, though often in a campy way that was enjoyable on some level. I have a tough time believing that this will do the original film justice, since it just looks like a soulless attempt to cash in on the current werewolf semi-craze going on thanks to Twilight and that <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105384-MTV-Rebooting-Teen-Wolf-With-TV-Series>Teen Wolf show that MTV started airing this year.

The Howling: Reborn is due out on October 18th.

I have a sinking feeling Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes might be involved somehow...but then again it's straight to DVD..which also another bad sign it will suck.

I already have a feeling it will suck, since I recognize the girl from Ned's School Survival Guide on Family.

And it has the really annoying teenage boy from Terra Nova as the Protagonist.... this isn't going to well.

Captcha = cfecto Fecal-borne

How appropriate.

I get it that people can ***** about this movie being bad. It probably is. I don't when it comes about the fact that it's a remake.
What difference does that make? A bad movie is a bad movie, that's all. In what does that make the original less enjoyable?
It's not as if the remake becomes a replacement for the original one. Not as if your copy of the original sitting on your shelf will vanish once the remake hits the market.
All you have to do is ignore it. Doesn't seem difficult to do, right?

There are so many reasons why remakes are done.
The old one is not relevent to today's reality and can be told with a modern twist.
Or someone suggested a script and was forced to put the name of a known series because it shared some similarities with it.
But I agree that rarely it is done with the best intentions.
Even in featurettes where producers and directors speak all positive about their movie it often deceives once you watched it. As if you didn't watch the movie that they were talking about.
In the end it all comes down to one thing; MONEY.
And if they keep doing them, it's probably because they make a ton of it.
Which is kind of funny... so many people complain, but yet remakes are profitable.

Now, when they screw up with the original movie by adding new scenes, cgi, voice overs and so on and that this is the only version available, I get that people can be pissed.
You guys know what I'm talking about. They should at least do the same as they did for E.T. put the original and the redux in the box.
But again, it's not always failing... the extended version of Sin City was pretty good and so did the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Oh wow, that acting is just... good GOD that's bad. Can't just blame it on the actors though, some of those lines were just horrific.

I wouldn't call this a reboot. Its not done my a major studio and its straight to DVD, so I'd place it more in league with all those awful Hellraiser sequels.

When Platinum Dunes comes along, then call it a reboot.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that the pre-cursor "re-" actually means "we have done our best to forget everything that made the original so special; and we've replaced that with whatever is popular the last time one of us went outside."

Another cheap corporate cash-in reboot with no other ambition than to milk the franchise (who name was ruined the second movie; although, Christopher Lee fighting werewolves at the very worst is awesome).

Don't be a sucker. Just skip it, and move on.

straight-to-DVD
I believe thats all I needed to know to find out this is going to be a shit movie.

You don't "re-boot" The Howling you just don't.

The vast majority of directors of films today don't have the common sense it would require to re-do Howling and keep it the great movie it is.

The best we can hope for off these morons is a slash fest with teenagers. Pretty much like every other horror film on the market.

And also the reason I wish these fuckwits would leave our old classics alone and stop screwing them up.
