Build Houses and Hotels in Rapture With BioShock Monopoly

If the combination of BioShock and Monopoly strikes you as a natural fit, then you need to try out BioShock Monopoly!

Boardwalk? Park Place? Feh. Passé! Sander Cohen's apartment is really where it's at these days, which is why you should be playing BioShock Monopoly [http://www.game-archivist.com/rapture/downloads/BioShock_Monopoly_KatMann.zip], a total conversion of the classic board game that replaces all the properties you know and love with locations from the underwater hellscape known as Rapture.

Skip the railways and swing by Sinclair Solutions or Tennenbaum's Safehouse. And instead of paying your utility bills, you can drop your hard-earned cash on El Ammo Bandito or the Circus of Values! It's all here: the Grand Foyer, Arcadia Glens, the Artemis Suites and even an awaiting medical bill delivered by an unpleasant man in a bloody surgical gown!

And how much sweat of your brow will be needed to take this baby home? None, actually. The package was put together by a BioShock fan named KatMann and it's absolutely free from the Rapture City Archives [http://www.game-archivist.com/rapture/index.php]. It's old, yes - it appears to have been made back in 2010 - but it's also very cool, and that's good enough for me.

Doesn't the concept of competitive capitalism totally invalidate the Objectivist movement at its very heart?

Rand was a laissez-faire capitalist, so the concept of rent would be...dissonant at best.

Woulda just called it BioPoly, except that would violate some kind of trademark. (As opposed to Monopoly. Yep.)

It would have been more awesome if you had said "I'll invalidate you" instead...

...and as with all movements, they usually fall to the wayside when it comes to taking everything for yourself while everybody else is occupied with your rhetoric.

Monopoly is the only board game that I own multiple versions of, I don't know how they do it. You'd think one would be enough but then I see that they made a Firefly version of it or something (which I do want by the way) and I must have it.

If somebody made this into a digital game or an actual board game then I would buy it for sure!

I downloaded this just to get a look at it. I really like the way the designer echoed the progression of cheap to expensive areas of the city. Pity everything is so low-resolution though. I swear, even at full zoom, it's smaller on my screen than the actual game board.

I'm really not sure what you're talking about. Turning a business venture into a contest whose goal is to bankrupt the competition is so in tune with Objectivism it hurts. The only dissonant thing I can see here is the "free parking" square. Maybe they should have made that into Fontaine's Home for the Poor or something.

Unfortuantely, that's not what Monopoly is about. The original game is about owning all ventures regardless of merit, and determining that by luck/birthright rather than acumen. That denotes it as an almost Imperialistic dogma, which directly counters Objectivism. To make it a completely Objectivist gameplay, you'd have to increase the money gained from passing Go due to your capital, require that all squares are landed on equally and remove both Free Parking and Jail, as both could be negated or destroyed by the use of finances.
Monopoly doesn't work as a contest as there's no skill involved, it just works as a probability betting system that rewards those who work within the rules.

Good points TRoaE.

OT: fun I should try my hand at making one of these. The fallout one is very impressive.

It prints at 300 DPI and is the exact size of a standard Monopoly board. I have the Swami and Power to the People cards as well.... it's just that no one contacted me about posting it everywhere :)
