I laughed at the comic.. but the phrase "am i the only one..." shouldnt necesarily invalidate the rest of the question... i'd wager less than half the people who say that dont really believe they are the only one, and instead they're actually saying in a round about way: I am the only person i know who ---, do you also ---?

I see this being used all the time on youtube. It annoys me to know end. Part of me thinks it's just used to get their comment liked by people prove they aren't the only one. Part of me thinks that they really think that they're the only one who's seen Troll 2.

Technically true, but people usually only bother phrasing it like that if they're posting something one-note in reaction to something popular. "Am I the only one not hyped for Skyrim?" for example. Of course not, you're just the only one who thought your lack of interest in something deserved its own post!
