Desert Bus for Hope Breaks $240,000

The Desert Bus for Hope is rumbling through the desert like a non-stop juggernaut of awesome, smashing road signs and donation records with equal aplomb.

In 2007, also known as Desert Bus Year One, the LoadingReadyRun team raised nearly $23,000 for the the team said [http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCkQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.childsplaycharity.org%2F&ei=2iDNTtiVIOrX0QHC7Nz_Dw&usg=AFQjCNEy0rdQSrJsmDUxOdnNSlyXot7_cw] in the aftermath of the world's most tedious gaming marathon.

Right. Welcome to 2011.

This year's journey through the desert has raised over $240,000 - that's two hundred and forty THOUSAND dollars - and shows no sign of blowing a gasket anytime soon. Donations are still coming in, there's still lots of fantastic stuff to be auctioned and that means that the LRR team is likely going to have to man up for a few more days of awfulness! And if there's one thing I like better than doing a solid for the children, it's watching other people suffer for it.

Speaking of which, here's a little something you can do to support the cause. To thank the LoadingReadyRun team for all the wonderful good it's doing, The Escapist is holding a charitable game of its own, with the "winning" member of LRR, as chosen by you, being slimed live and in color on Thursday! Because no good deed goes unpunished, am I right? Do your part to stick it to your favorite LRRist at The Escapist's Desert Bus for Hope page [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/DesertBusForHope/dessertbus.php]!

I know you don't want to cause no fuss, so hop aboard the Desert Bus at desertbus.org [http://desertbus.org/] - this is one ride you don't want to miss!

And all of $100 is mine.
I've been watching this as much as I can in between work and sleep. I do love the LRR guys. And they seems to know every other geek in the world that give them some truly awesome stuff! Signed games, hand made items, Uncut Foil MtG sheets, Steampunk glove hands, custom built lightsabers! They even had a race between the virtual game and a real bus between Tucson, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada, the trip is 360 miles long, with the FanGamer guys who are making their official t-shirt! Which the LRR team won! (go Morgan!)

And so far every year they have increased the final total for Child's Play and they still haven't finished yet! I'm guessing that at this rate they'll pass $300,000!

Also, Team Kroze for the win!

It's good and all, but I've clicked the add accidentally like a million times. But seeing this, I'm not complaining. G'job to y'all.

The call-ins are the best bits, especially when Mikey Neumann starts emptying his shelf into the auction pile :D

Susan's on later today!

244K atm and I've donated 50$.....putting it like that...but it's all I got too spare.
It's an excellent donation and it's donations that size or smaller that form the backbone of this effort. Not everyone can (or should) spend $3000 on a single auction. So, applause for you! *Clap clap*

ya...I think my heart went along with Graham's during the Ken Steacy auctions and Mickey Neumann....and dear god do I remember Octopimp during DB 3.

Can't handle those super high bids. xD

I've been watching it almost every waking hour for about the last 4 days. Aside from several technical problems where the video feed fails for hours on end, it's been great.

I donated too this year. I know it's only $5, but it's all I can afford right now. Still, great going everyone.

Also, go team Kroze! XD

Don't knock the small donations - a ton of people making a small donation for a $5 challenge is just as good as blowing $5k on a Ken Steacy auction. That's the point of doing the raffles and challenges - that way everyone can afford to contribute and get something out of it.

Check it out if you haven't already - a ton of great stuff has already gone down.

Exactly. The fact that you give anything at all is wonderful, and all those small donations really do add up.

It's so awesome, it's almost sad.

Because while Child's Play is going to get one of the hugest donations of all time, I can only imagine what kind of torture the LRR crew is suffering through having to endure so many hours, days, maybe even a week of non-stop Desert Bus. There's a point where it stops being an endurance test for the sake of charity and more like a torture where you've made millions happy by driving a couple of people insane.

I tuned in just as they broke 250K. I was ecstatic when that happened. And there was much rejoicing.

It's for a good cause! Great work guys!
