Beyond Black Mesa Director Returns With Half-Life: Origins

The creator of Beyond Black Mesa is back with an amazing live-action look at Gordon Freeman's ride to his worst day at work ever.

I'm not sure what amazes me more: that technology today allows a few guys with some spare time and creative energy to come up with something as incredible as this, or that the Half-Life [http://www.amazon.com/Half-Life-2-Pc/dp/B00006I02Z/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322587738&sr=8-1] franchise continues to inspire such devotion despite Valve's apparent indifference to the whole thing. Either way, it's a win for gamers, because this live-action adaptation of the Freeman's last trip to the office really is one seriously impressive accomplishment.

The director, Brian Curtin, also offered some advice to fanboys who might feel compelled by the video to go back and re-experience the real thing: be prepared for disappointment. "After ten-plus years since it's release, if you ever go back and replay the original Half-Life, it doesn't look anything like you remember," he wrote. "The graphics are horrible compared to present day games, but years ago it blew my mind. This video plays with that contrast. I incorporated a fusion of live action and CG environments that give it a semi-realistic look, but also not realistic at the same time. Hope you enjoy it!"

Enjoy it I did! Now if we could just convince Valve to give the series as much love as the fans do, my world would be complete.

It still doesn't answer why we have to wear these ridiculous ties.

But, damn...subscribed.
Because there's absolutely no situation in the world that can preclude looking fabulous.

I will always wonder exactly what G-man is, and what his role and connections were in Black Mesa.

Great vid, I'm definitely subscribing.

"The graphics are horrible compared to present day games" - Brian Curtin.

Well done captain obvious!

I replayed it a few years ago, and yes, while the graphics don't hold up to todays games (why ever would they?) I felt the gameplay was thoroughly enjoyable.

Most people have him pegged as some kind of neutral party or broker in an interdimensional alien space war that comes to Earth. Just look him up on the Half-Life wikia. Tons of theories.

I think that could be a likely reason for the huge interval in Half-Life installments. People keep figuring out the twists before the game comes out and Valve keeps rewriting it to keep things fresh.

Or they really just don't give a shit.

Does anyone else think that looks like Yahtzee?
My thought was that it looked like House, but now that you mention it...

That was cool. I enjoyed the microwave part at the end.
