Left 4 Dead Fan Film Gets A Surprisingly Solid Trailer

Oppressive atmosphere? Ravenous undead? Surly shotgun cocking? Yup, that's pretty much Left 4 Dead.

It's Friday, so that means my corporate taskmasters have given me free rein to shift the news coverage slightly away from crucial world events in favor of "things that are totally rad." Thus, I felt it important to highlight this brand new trailer for the upcoming Left 4 Dead fan film created by Airsoft GI and N5 Entertainment.

Why? Because it is definitely "totally rad."

Doubly so when you consider that this thing was apparently filmed in a single weekend last month. That's Corman-esque levels of production efficiency, and yet the end result is far more atmospheric and true to the source material than any Hollywood videogame adaptation.

To wit: you will notice an almost complete lack of John Leguizamo [http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Bros-Bob-Hoskins/dp/B00008979N] in the clip.

Granted, this vignette is rather on the short side, but it is just a trailer. The video's YouTube description promises that the full fan film "will be released soon," so now we have something to look forward to other than that whole "birth of Christ" thing on the 25th.

Alright, I've said my piece (and even got to reference a Bob Hoskins movie) so now it's your turn. Are you likewise impressed by this trailer? Do you wish it contained a bit more pipebomb? Perhaps you were hoping for a touching love scene between Zoey and that beret?

That Francis looks almost exactly like, well, Francis. I am impressed with this trailer and I do hope that the final product will deliver.

They're all a bit too clean (and Zoe's hair too full of some product) considering this is supposed to be after The Sacrifice, somebody should tell that guy in the blue shirt that zombies probably don't have the brainpower to toss the pieces they don't want behind them, and the way Louis yanks the slide back at the end is just asking to get somebody shot.

Other than those little nitpicks it's actually a really good trailer. Much more respectful to the source material than most live action game adaptations, indie or otherwise.

It's very well made and they look like their characters, but the characterisation seems to only be skin deep. Especially with Zoey - even after Bill's death I don't think she'd be this angst-ridden. What was going on with the pathetic little head-tilt at 1:36? That's not Zoey at all.

yeah, the little head tilt can sometimes seem a tiny bit cliched. But meh, who knows. We really don't know how these characters would usually act when they are taking a break from zombie killing. Emotions would set in pretty hard after going through as much stuff as these characters have.

I've seen to many neat trailers to take the bait.

Still; this at least looks well done so probably worth some time.

I thought the L4D zombies weren't exactly the flesh-eating types - more like violence-prone rabid people.

The only thing that could make this better is a bitchin' How To Destroy Angles remix in the backgr-OH WAIT

Seriously though, that was pretty sweet. Where's Bill though? Is it supposed to be post "The Sacrifice"?

There's going to be a Louis/Zoey romantic subplot, isn't there?
Of course there is. All films like this one have to have a romantic sub-plot; it's a law or something. Though to be honest, Valve themselves hinted at such a relationship in-game. The campaign posters at the beginning [i/]always[/i] have Loius next to Zoey, their dialogue at seeing the other's corpse is always more emotional than for Bill or Francis, and then there is the banter (Zoey has a line in No Mercy about how good Lious would look in a hospital gown)... Yeah, I'm pretty sure Valve thought this up but didn't put it in completely because of playtester reactions to the early Francis/Zoey relationship.

OT: Look's good. I just hope it isn't that angsty all the way through. The comics make it clear that the survivors weren't that emotionally invested in each other (think Firefly with the whole crew having more Jayne tendencies) and the Passing shows that Zoey was the one calling the shots, so she hardened up which isn't what the trailer showed. Hopefully, this scene was supposed to be before the Passing and they have some really good character growth.
