Mass Effect 2 Prop Rifle Will Blow You Away

Zander Brandt is back with an all-new, all-awesome Mass Effect 2 prop rifle that looks like it could take a Krogan's head clean off.

Zander Brandt, the guy who put together the amazing M-29 Incisor rifle we showed you [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/113633-Propmaker-Crafts-Impressive-Mass-Effect-Rifle-Replica] back in October, is back in action and this time he's brought some serious Mass Effect firepower to the party: the M-96 Mattock heavy rifle, a semiautomatic assault weapon the offers the low heat production of an assault rifle and the punch of a sniper rifle. Brandt's version doesn't actually produce any heat - it's made of wood - and although it could probably mess you up pretty good if someone clobbered you in the face with it, the relevant point to our story is that it looks fantastic.

As he did with the M-29, Brandt documented the M-96 build process from the wood cutting to the final paint job, which includes just enough artificial wear and tear to make this gun look like it has some serious miles on it. Not that his breakdown is really going to simplify the process for anyone; rather like those old "learn how to draw Yogi Bear" things from back in the day, this project seems to suddenly transmogrify from a pile of wood scraps to a space-age machine gun, more or less magically, about half-way through the process.

Brandt said the complexity of the construction is intentional. "I chose [the Mattock] because it is arguably the most complicated rifle in the Mass Effect universe that still looks like it was made by human hands," he wrote on his blog. "I like a challenge. And headaches, apparently."

Headaches or not, the final result is brilliant and about as spot-on to the original concept art as you're going to get. This is the kind of gun I'd be proud to have mounted over my mantel.

By Odin, Why doesn't someone hire this guy to so that he can make more of these and sell them?!

Argh! I want it!

OT: That is awesome.

EDIT: Typo :S

I agree, this guy could make a killing selling these things.

OT: It's so awesome, i want!

Do want.

I want a workshop where I can go crazy trying to build things like this.

One day...when Skyrim is finally beaten.

BEST GUN in ME2 Hands down. No matter what class I chose I would always pick up the assault rifle as my optional weapon when you infiltrated the collector ship just so I could use the Mattock.

Let me tell you a VanGuard with a Mattock is bad news.

That is very cool. See, if I were to buy a gun, it would be one like this - completely harmless, but totally awesome-looking.

Something tells me that even begging wont get me one.

So instead, im going to try screaming and crying.

UPDATE: No, it turns out that only angers my neighbors and causes a dozen police to show up at my door.

Wow, I've never played Mass Effect (I want to, but I'm not pleased with EA right now) but when I glanced at this my first thought was that someone had customized an FN F2000. This is a rifle that FN Herstal has been pushing with for the past 8 years or so. I remember because a guy at a gun store wanted to sell me one for $2400 back in 2008. I politely declined. Seriously though it looks very similar, I wonder if the folks at BioWare saw this:
So, I suppose for $2000-ish, you could get one of these and refinish it with the right colors. It's by no means an exact match but hey, it fires real bullets. That's 65% more bullet per bullet.

That is a damn impressive prop, though. Hire this guy for a Mass Effect movie.

Impressive! I always thought the Mattock looked like a hunk of wood, but I'm glad it's getting all the love. However, I wonder how it got this popular.

I think it's been in all the marketing, promotional vids and combat demos up to now. Yeah, it's very gratifying to use, but it wasn't even available without DLC. I guess it's the signature ME3 soldierShep weapon just like that Avenger assault rifle used to be.
