"Girly Vader" Dishes Out Some Force Smackdown

"Girly Vader" finds your lack of faith in Kinect Star Wars disturbing.

I don't care about Kinect or about the popularity of Star Wars as a multimedia entertainment franchise for children, but I do find this ad rather amusing. As a conference of Imperial generals discuss their plans for galactic domination, Girly Vader makes it clear that the Death Star, mighty as it is, is no match for the power of the Force - and she's not in the mood to take any guffola about it from some tinpot functionary in a uniform.

The classic scene, remade for the upcoming Kinect Star Wars, should be instantly familiar to even the most casual nerd as an early example of both the power of the Force, back before it was retconned into the CGI-fueled nonsense it is today, and the overbearing evil of Darth Vader. It's funny, yes, but at the same time I can't help but be a little disturbed myself by the thought of a young girl throttling people for fun, and disappointed that one of the darkest scenes in the film is today nothing more than fodder for slapstick advertising.

This is what happens when you get old, kids. Someday it'll happen to you too. Kinect Star Wars [http://www.amazon.com/Kinect-Star-Wars-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0HCNI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329240363&sr=8-1] is set to come out on April 3, exclusively [you might have guessed that from the "Kinect" part] for the Xbox 360.

That was cute.

Other than it being used as advertising, how is this any different than when Family Guy or Robot Chicken make fun of scenes in Star Wars?

I do agree with Andy that it is rather creepy watching a girl being so sadistic, and yet it is rather funny, as well. Oh well. Considering how much the story's original creator has butchered his own work, who are we to complain about scenes like this being taken into a whole different spin?

If Kinect Star wars turns out to be any good I will be extremely surprised (albeit pleasantly). The majority of that game's sales will be on that deliciously collectable Star Wars themed Xbox 360.

I mean why else would you charge almost $500 usd for something that is likely to be obsolete in little more than a year.

Meh, I preferred the previous ad they did with the obi-wan battle. This got funny towards the end but it was dragged out way too much on the first choking. I wonder what the next ad will be like? Im betting on it being Luke training in the swamp with Yoda.

The fact that girl can multi force chokes more than Vader singular force choke is quite a fright.

I wouldn't suggest watching Umineko no Naku Koro ni, then. Though that wasn't so much throttling as twisting clean off....

That said, Umineko did have the cleverest use of a "Force choke" I've seen. Done to a person... while hugging them.

He should watch Mirai Nikki instead. Holy shit am I loving that anime. I think it maybe be taking a seat in my list of greatest shows. Thank Hulu for the recommended videos function!

Umineko is next :D

I'm not buying the game but just like the previous commercial with the obi wan scene, it is hilarious.

A few of the comments within this article wreak of the typical enshrinement that the original star wars trilogy seem to warrant from any fanboy over the age of thirty. It's time to take at least a small step back from the thick walls of sentimentality and nostalgia and admit the fact that Episodes 4, 5, and 6 were silly, terribly silly, like so many pieces of media spawned by the 80's. The aging 'geek' has such a fine, spiky armor of cynicism typically strapped to his form, that its about time we went ahead an excised that last, squishy core. I mean honestly, this may just be an innate reaction instilled in a young gent by all of his aged 'geek' mentors and the transference of their suitably sour armor, but calling ANY moment of the original trilogy 'dark,' smacks of the absurd.

Openly Back Talking a superior with uncanny powers? Stupid. Immediately lashing out at an uppity functionary and thus proving yourself a colossal, impatient, man-child (but with a ludicrously sexy voice)? Hardly riveting.

Hell, the Original Trilogy would've been a lot darker HAD the Empire been run by glowing, creepy little girls with no impulse control and a frightening array of supernatural powers. Have you seen what little girls do to one another? Now there's a dystopian future.

And really, we still find little girls wielding disproportionate amounts of power disturbing? Of course it's entertaining, didn't Hit Girl and Hanna already demonstrate that particular societal pathos? Schadenfreude is nothing new, and apparently power tripping young women is this generations thing now.

PS: Admit it, the Force would've ALWAYS been a CGI fueled mess, had the budget and tech been up for it. People like the shiny, prettiness. That's why the swords glow and make sound effects, that's why Palpatine flings lightening.

Star Wars is just one of those cultural products whose mythos and universe will always be more fascinating than any of the six actual films, because the six actual films (while not gross abominations by any stretch of the imagination), are just sort of 'meh.' There a hundred better stories in the EU.

PSS: This has been an opinion, brought to you by Opinionated Biped Productions.

More than anything else, this just makes me appreciate more the original acting.

Read girly vader, was expecting Vader in pink armour. Disappoint.

Though now I wonder, what does Vader think the force can do that tops destroying a planet?
