Watch 5 Bloody Minutes Of Ninja Gaiden 3 Gameplay

First, it's like WHOOSH and then it's like SLICE and then BOOM! Dragon outta nowhere!

If you've ever wondered why people dig the latter-day Ninja Gaiden games, this video is a perfect example of their appeal. Yes, they are incredibly difficult and thrive on punishing players for any and all mistakes, but once you know what you're doing, once you have a handle on Ryu Hayabusa's abilities and can reasonably predict what your foes might do, the gameplay becomes a sublime orgy of blood, lacerations, and mythical beasts tearing your foes limb from limb.

Whatever worries I might have had about the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 3 based on the departure of histrionically misogynistic series figurehead Tomonobu Itagaki [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/84246-Itagaki-Leaves-Team-Ninja-Sues-Tecmo] were largely wiped away by this latest footage. Assuming the new development team at Tecmo Koei doesn't totally botch the game's necessarily tight controls, Ninja Gaiden 3 should be pretty great when it hits shelves next month.

Alongside the above trailer, Tecmo Koei also dropped a promo for the Vita-exclusive Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. Like the PlayStation 3's Ninja Gaiden Sigma, this game is a remake of the Xbox-exclusive Ninja Gaiden, with added characters, added gameplay options and improved visuals. Overall it looks like a solid, if largely rehashed package, though I'm morbidly curious as to how many Vita owners will end up smashing their shiny new handheld to pieces after that first boss annihilates them for the seventeenth time.

And that should pretty much cover all of your ninja-centric needs for 2012. Questions?

Oh, dear. When God of War comes to mind at all when I'm watching Ninja Gaiden gameplay, something is clearly wrong.

I really hope my suspicions that they've dumbed down the gameplay for Ninja Gaiden 3 are completely wrong.

I will be surprised if Ninja Gaiden retains its oh-mai-gawd-so-frekin-hard aura this time around (I don't know, just speculating).

I mean, with the way games are going nowadays, its not an unreasonable assumption amirite?

I heard Michael McConnohie's voice in there a few times. I hope he gets to laugh. That man's incredibly sexy voice was one of the reasons I watched Code Geass's English dub. As well as, you know, the millions and millions of other things he's been in. He was my favourite thing about Crackdown.

That's an unecessary cliffhanger if I've ever seen one. "Yeah, I just killed a few hundred guys, blew up a helicopter, sank some ships, blew up another tank, and ripped your arm off, but i guess you could try to bite me."

I loved Ninja Gaiden 2 so I hope this game will be much the same. It looks pretty sweet in any case. I guess I will wait for this until it gets on WiiU though... Better to have some games to look forward to.

If I don't end up with at least 1 aneurysm due to rage I will be sorely disappointed as that is one of the only reasons I play these games for the difficulty.

Eurgh...

Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 are two of my favorite action/adventure games.

I was struggling to watch the entire video. I don't know why. It LOOKED pretty decent...there's just something I can't quite put my finger on...
It was all choppy, and the camera was being held by someone who had never seen electronics before.
Although the game play looks interesting, that really was a horribly put together trailer. Not horrible If I had done it, but definitely bad by the standards of people getting paid big bucks to make advertising clips...
