UK Retailer Won't Sell Ubisoft Titles For Vita Launch

If you live in the UK and were planning to pick up a PlayStation Vita, be warned: GAME isn't going to have any Ubisoft games to go along with the system's launch.

UK Retailer GAME has been having a tough couple of weeks. After losing credit insurance (meaning stores would have to pay cash for new stock), the retailer's <a href=http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-21-game-scraps-the-last-story-special-edition-days-before-launch>cancelled its special edition for The Last Story, and now it's revealed that it won't have any Ubisoft games in stock when the PlayStation Vita launches.

That's a problem for many UK gamers, since GAME is described as "the only specialist store in the UK," and games not being sold through the chain can be pretty detrimental to their sales rankings. Eurogamer cites how Namco's Tekken 3D Prime Edition wasn't sold in the stores and didn't make it onto the Top 40 Chart.

This is could severely limit folks' option when it comes to buying games for the new system. Ubisoft has five games coming out in time for the Vita's launch (<a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/5385-Ubisoft>for better or for worse), but the publisher has yet to comment on the situation. GAME has confirmed, though, that Vita titles from publishers EA, Capcom, and Sega will all be available.

GAME's expected to unveil an £18 million loss this fiscal quarter, and is reportedly trying to shore things up with both the Vita and Wii U systems launching. However, if it can't provide things to play on these consoles, then a lot of gamers will likely go elsewhere to make their purchases, thus worsening this financial spiral.

It's not the only specialist - there is still Gamestation. Even CEX has a good choice albeit most are second hand. And then there's HMV (where I work)....not solely focused on games but still (at least in my branch) a wide and varied choice. However I hope Game does not go under.

With the rise of digital distribution and sites like Amazon I haven't bought anything from GAME for years so I'm not surprised.

I thought they were bought out by GAME a few years back.

I guess Granger Games execs will be ordering extra piles of cocaine tonight.

from this I've learned an important lesson:
"Even if you have a monopoly, you don't always win"

still, the fact that there are ubisoft games in GAME and Gamestation proves the aricle wrong (unless they decide to take all of the ubisoft stock from the shelves tonight for some reason)

gamestation is game, sure they have different logos and charge different prices, but don't be fooled, behind both facades is the same cold soulless husk!

It is true that game are in deep crap though, wonder if I should change my ME3 preorder?

I was wondering the same thing myself.. had it pre-ordered since the day the collectors edition was announced, it would kill me if i lost out on it because of Game going down the shitter.

But im hoping that anything they currently have up on the store is stuff they've already paid for.

You can't spell game without gay (well you can but you get the point)

OT:This does not surprise me, game have been making some silly choices for a few years now, not to mention their customer service sucks and they wil recommend you any game to make a quick sale!

Good. GAME rip of their customers with over priced crap, and try and sell me PC games at double, or even triple the price that I can get them ANYWHERE else.

They have an incredibly crap returns policy, I bought some headphones, they were for xbox, I thought they could be used for PC, they couldn't, they sold them to me anyway, knowing my intention, and then refused to take them back even though it was a day after and I had the receipt.

The prices on their website are even different from the ones in store, and yea, Gamestation are owned by Game.

I just go to CEX now, second hand gaming store, bought BF3 for £22 (Brand new, just returned x-mas game I guess, y'know how it is.)

Yeah I know what you mean. They're fun to get angry with though. Last year my (refurbished) 360 RRoDed, I returned it for another one, which they hadn't refurbished yet, so I took that back. I got a refund, bought a brand new Elite with 3 games, 2 controllers and their full insurance policy.

Through deliberate application of huffing impatiently and reminding them they'd swapped me a dead console for a dead console last time, I managed to get all the above for about only about £20 more than the original 2nd hand piece of crap cost me to begin with :)

That was the last time I shopped there. I came away with more than I'd paid for, which made up for the overpriced goods I'd bought before and now, like you, I shop at CEX.

When I saw the title I was hoping that some stores had just decided to boycott Ubisoft game untill they removed their stupid DRM.
I was so full of hope only to be crushed that the main store I get games from is closing down.

Did you read the article?

GAME will not have Vita games from Ubisoft at launch.

Vita games.

At Launch.

I think you missed something.

EDIT: I wonder what this means for GAME in Australia if they're going shit over in the UK.

It's never "good" for a company to struggle. Struggling companies lay off employees, who have nothing to do with store policy and the such, and are just there to pay the bills.

Change = good.
Failing = bad.

Uh... nice half an article there. How about some "why?" Why won't Gamestation have any Ubisoft games for Vita at launch? Some decision on Gamestation's part not to order them? Did Ubisoft refuse to ship to Gamestation? Any indication in either case about why such a decision was made?

Game and gamestation are owned by the same parent company and have been for years.
Grainger games only seems to exist in the northwest.

Personally I buy my games on amazon instead, since they're usually a fair bit cheaper than Game :\ I'd also buy more stuff from Game if my local branch wasn't staffed by Microsoft fanboys that take the piss whenever you buy anything not for the 360 but that isn't the companys' fault.

Also, to some above dude: most companies that sell games will fight tooth and nail to not take it back if you opened the cellophane, I had it with a CD with Play.com a while back, sorry if I had to open it to check how much your incompetent staff had damaged it? > >

At any rate, meh. Game can die.
