Rockstar Shows Off Glorious Max Payne 3 PC Screens

The PC version of Max Payne 3 may lag a little behind its console counterparts, but it's going to look absolutely incredible when it gets here.

It's a little disappointing that we PC gamers will have to wait a couple weeks longer to get our hands on Max Payne 3 but on the upside, those with the hardware to handle it will enjoy some truly stunning visuals when it finally arrives. Rockstar promises the PC release will feature "gloriously increased resolution and graphical detail" and has thrown out three new hi-definition screens to show off what the game can do.

Of course, we're not quite sure yet what sort of hardware you'll need to make the game this pretty. Rockstar hasn't yet released the Max Payne 3 PC system requirements, although information about "special graphics hardware support and enhancements" and full system specs are expected to be announced soon. In the meantime, if you're not sure whether or not you've got the iron to run this at full balls, you probably don't.

They look like cut scenes to me, i.e pre rendered. Will wait to see what the specs are as if it just using DX 9, that would not be something to jump up an down about.

After the Batman launch last year, I am a bit cynical about devs saying the PC version is coming later, so they can give it some extra love. Still waiting for Batman to be patched properly....

Meh. I have to say, that bald bearded look is retarded for me since I played both the Originals on release. So far this tells me nothing and doesn't make me look forward to this at all. I can't help but feel they are going to do what companies like to do and take a older properties name, stick on a newer product and rely on the hype created by the better known past incarnation.

What I find funny about pre rendered cut scenes is that more than half the time, the pre rendered videos look worse than in game. Mass Effect 3 PC demo is the most recent example. Playing the game at ultra with AA looks better than the cut scenes.

Older example, DX HR cutscenes.

Well, i can`t remember his arms being so vein-y, though he never did wear short sleeves.
But screw that, I´m really exited and looking forward to it. Just...please, don`t disappoint me, okay? That really would suck...

"Absolutely incredible" in the way GTA 4 and L.A. Noire were? Sorry, not buying it. Will believe it when it's there.
Well, I thoroughly enjoyed GTA 4, i haven't really played another GTA's (San Andreas) story with any depth beyond stealing a few vehicles and shooting some police, but I really cannot understand how GTA 4 could be demerited at all.

It's been a long time since I've seen pre-rendered cutscenes that stood out for their quality instead of their lack of it, and BioWare has been a particularly bad offender for years. Jade Empire was the worst of them because of how long it took the PC version to come out. I played the game at 1920x1440 maxed out, but they kept the original Xbox cutscenes which were 640x480 with horrible compression and low detail. Even the ones in the Mass Effect series have been pretty jarring as a whole because they're lower resolution than I play at and full of compression artifacts. Back in the 90s it used to be kind of cool to have a video come up and display something I could never see in-game, but these days it's usually more of a punishment that pulls me out of the world I've gotten used to and replaces it with a crappy facsimile of it for a minute or two.

I agree that it just ruins the experience in some cases. The low resolution of these cut scenes we can pretty much blame on consoles. It's more likely that they made all the cut scenes for the consoles in low res to match the game, but when it translates to PC...we know how that turns out.

Well, if they'd just do stuff in-engine, it'd be fine no matter where or when it's running. They'd have to give up on a few fancy effects that they wouldn't be able to get away with anymore on consoles or older PCs, but at least it would be guaranteed to fit in with the rest of the game. It would also avoid OMGWTFBBQ moments like discovering that the reason that the PC version of The Force Unleashed was 30GB was that it had a separate 720p video file for each of the half a dozen languages it supports for every single cutscene in the game, when if it had been done in-engine it would've been closer to 5GB total...
