Insomniac Almost Made Superlative Pinball Sim

Insomniac Games set out to make the greatest pinball videogame the world had ever seen, but it vanished under mysterious circumstances.

Just as pinball machines have slowly disappeared from pizza parlors, boardwalks, and arcades worldwide, so too did an ambitious pinball sim from Insomniac fall by the wayside. Even while the popular developer was hard at work on Resistance 2 and Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, Insomniac began development on 1080Pinball, a proposed downloadable title that would have merged a meticulously physics-heavy pinball game with original tables based on the greats of yore. While the developer pulled the plug on the project in mid-2007, Insomniac has not yet given a reason why.

The information on the canceled game came by way of Insomniac's new Facebook Timeline. "[1080Pinball] was intended to be the most realistic pinball simulation ever (including simulating weight of ball, gravity, and friction of table surface, as well as accurately modeling the "kick bumpers"), running in 1080p and 60fps," it reads. The page goes on to explain that the game aimed to be for pinball simulations what Gran Turismo is for driving games, and that this reveal should explain the vast number of pinball machines seen in Insomniac's offices, as well as its Pinballz music video. Those who are interested in the reasons behind the game's ultimate fate can tune into the next episode of "There has to be a twist." [http://www.insomniacgames.com/category/full-moon-show/]

Pinball article.

Pinball Wizard reference.

It's literally impossible not to make one. :)

I'd probably have bought it, too. As a downloadable PSN title like Quest for Booty.

Well they could donate the pinball engine and table tools to guys like the lot at VPForums ( www.vpforums.org ) or a similiar group who still worship pinball tables and would apreciate it.
Doubt that would happen though... no money to be had in that action.

I think that Zen Pinball/Pinball FX already does a hell of a job doing pinball games for iOS/Xbox360/PS3. Marvel Pinball is pretty awesome as are quite a few of the tables, like Epic Quest, for the core game.

It was canceled, I assume, because it wouldn't have been profitable. INSOMNIAC! KICK START THAT SHIT!

Maybe there was a reason they didn't make a physics heavy pinball game and why they are disappearing from Arcades.

Pinball is shit.

I would have rather had this than another (or any) Resistance game.

(Though honestly Pinball FX is pretty darn good)

Goddamnit, we need more pinball games! I almost wept when they got rid of the Doctor Who pinball machine in the snooker place near my Dad's house. That was one of my last pinball fixes. Nowadays the only thing I have to hand is some free one on my iPod and Sonic Spinball, which I can never get past the first round of.

Sorry to ruin the mood. But remember what day it is. ;)

While it would be fun to have a new well made pinball game, the best pinball game ever has already...

I would never buy it unless it had an accurate simulation of the pinball game that came with Windows XP. Best pinball ever. Real pinball is shit.
