Bulletstorm Dev Working on Gears of War

The next Gears could be a prequel.

With the proposed Bulletstorm sequel revealed next week at E3 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/116713-Epic-Kills-Bulletstorm-Sequel].

When news broke about the existence of the newest entrant in the Gears series, people peppered developer/publisher Epic Games for details. Understandably, the studio was tight-lipped, but Epic president Mike Capps confirmed via Twitter [https://twitter.com/epicactual/status/208523504549773313] that People Can Fly was involved in its development.

Now, "involvement" in development is a vague term. It's possible that Epic has completely turned development over to the Painkiller studio, and it's just as possible that PCF is helping out while Epic does the lion's share of the work. Or maybe they're splitting the work 50/50 - the point is, People Can Fly is working in some capacity on Gears, which is heartening for anyone who enjoyed its previous titles.

A rumor back in November 2011 claimed that People Can Fly would be making a prequel to the main Gears trilogy that covered the formation of the squad and the events of Emergence Day. Now that PCF is officially tied to the series, that rumor suddenly has a bit more credibility to it.

We'll learn more at next week's E3, dicktits.

I WAS going to slam Epic for making another Gears after 3 made it pretty much imposible for a sequel, but a prequel covering the first year or so of the Locust war? That'd be freaking awesome. Bassicaly the Gears version of Halo Reach. And if PCF are on this, it'll probably involve mobility a lot more.

So maybe a pendulum wars era game? that could be amazing! especially if the multiplayer included territory battling!

The downside is of course a lack of modern lancer (the lancer as we know it was designed by Tai Kaliso to be able to cut through locust flesh)
Guess I am gonna have to jump on 3 and get some practice with the retro lancer!

Also a 20 something year old Marcus running around before his prison days could be interesting

Hardly anyone bought Bulletstorm. Which makes it hard to justify a sequel. :/

I don't like prequels, but this IS an undocumented section of the game's history so this might actually be worth the play. But if they do make this, does anyone else agree it'd be awesome if they actually did more of a recap of ALL the events we missed, including the gap between 2 and 3 when a whole crapload of characters were introduced, which I believe was only shown in the comic books and the novels? I for one would snap that ***** up and play it for months. I'm also curious if they'll bother shaking up the multiplayer segments of the game or just leave them as they were in GoW 3 (which was strong, but still missing some features).

The one damn thing I didn't wan't to happen...

They did it to Halo, they did it to God of War, now theyre doing it to Gears?

I don't even like Gears that much, I get a kick out of it time to time but damn I hate prequels, or, at least, the way they're normally executed.

Also the gnasher and any locust weapons would be out of the equation.

Unlikely, marcus was never escorted away in handcuffs by onyx guard.
And gears 3 was supposed to be the end of his story line, so further games would have different characters as the lead.

If we go by the image, it has some Reavers in the background so it wouldn't be Pendulum Wars. That and I think someone at Epic said Gears would always be humans vs something that isn't human (that could have been only for the main trilogy so who knows).

Still, would be cool to have some sort of playable section of the Pendulum Wars.

I have to say, I would love to see a prequel involving Aspho Field (where the COG took control of the Hammer of Dawn) or even up to the point where the COG deploys the Hammer of Dawn on the every major population center on the planet in order to try and wipe out the Locust. When push comes to shove though... meh. I never got to play any games beyond the first on the PC. And the 360 experience is completely meh.

I'm actually tempted to be hopeful, People can Fly may make something great out of the franchise and it would be interesting to see the beginning of the Locust/Human war. But then again the fact that the Locust are just one note mindless villains takes a huge chunk of potential intrigue out of the story for me, the Covenant in Halo were far more interesting because they had individual personalities and motivations and weren't all 'evil'.
But still it'll be fun to kill some more Locust in any case.

However I would still much rather a Bulletstorm sequel. Maybe one that does away with the cover and regenerating health and allows you to carry one million weapons at once. But eh, something tells me that's not going to happen.

I really hate prequels.

I don't give a rat's ass about playing through stuff I already know happened. I want to know what happens next.
