Quantum Conundrum Gets a Console Release Date

The latest title from Kim Swift is arriving on PSN and XBLA.

Portal veteran Kim Swift's new game Quantum Conundrum has only just arrived on Steam, but console users have a slightly longer wait ahead of them to see what all the fuss is about. Publisher Square-Enix has announced a July 10th release date for PSN and July 11th for XBox Arcade.

The game features a young boy on a visit to see his inventor uncle, only to discover that the house has been altered by the experiments conducted inside. The player will need to make use of the Interdimensional Shift Device to solve various physics-related puzzles and solve the mystery of what's happened.

From all reports, Quantum Conundrum is very much a spiritual sequel to the Portal, right down to the quirky humor and strange, robotic visual designs. The Escapist's own Susan Arendt had a chance to try it out at E3, and gave it <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/previews/9677-E3-Preview-Quantum-Conundrum>a glowing recommendation. The console versions appear to present an identical experience

While pricing information has yet to be confirmed for the console versions, Steam currently lists the PC version at $15. Steam is also offering <a href=http://store.steampowered.com/app/200010>a $19.99 "Season Pass" that includes the game, full soundtrack, and two upcoming DLC sets. No word yet on whether the season deal will be available for consoles as well.

Is the game worth buying on Steam, I know one of the developers came from the original Portal but will it have a similar charm/humor that Portal had?

Hey there, I played this for about 4 hours straight on launch day, I had preordered it.

I fully recommend getting it. The game has a good sense of humor, and the puzzles are, at least to me, pretty challenging. It definitely has that same Portal feel to it.

Hell, the entire game takes place in a single facility, and your only company is a disembodied voice. It's exactly like Portal!

In a good way.

Just finished it today. This game reminded me a lot of the original portal, short, sweet, and the start to a lot of interesting possibilities. Just be warned though, the actual story is short, I finished in 5 hours play time on Steam, but had a blast playing it.

It tries to be portal, but it really doesn't feel like it, don't get me wrong it has its charm but the pacing is really bad. The puzzles just feel endlessly chained together with not enough motivation/plot to push you on. I was compelled enough with Portal 2 to finish the game in a single sitting, with QC I've only been able to do it in 30min-1 hour stints before I started to get a little tired of it.

Also be warned the PC port is pretty dodgy. It's one of those UE3 games with no video options, FOV locked at 60 and barely any choice of resolution.

Oh yeah.. being locked into a lower resolution did suck, forgot about that. Not that the graphics were anything to complain about though.

Although if you're willing to fiddle about with config files and steam launch options, you can tame the beast well enough (eg, if you right click on it, select properties, then open "Set Launch Options", you can set a custom resolution by typing in "-resx=*horizontal res* -resy=*vertical res*", so if you want 1366x768, it'd be -resx=1366 -resy=768 )

Yeah it's easy enough to get it running at least in the right resolution. Frustrating though

Dammit...I was really hoping on a physical release for this one. Maybe I can convince one of my consoles to stay online long enough to download it once it's out on one of the two console services.

We usually don't see many green and fuzzy protagonists in video games, but I think he fits the mold quite well.
Every time I read a thread... Every time, how you get to these puns first is quite puzzling.

Holy inverted release dates, newsman, the PSN is getting something before Xbox? When, after E3, I had assumed Microsoft had just bought up all the pre-release incentives it could? Mindblowing!

anndd now I'm interested lol

will probably wait a while until I'm in the right mood to buy and play it tho, which seems to be what I do with downloadable titles.
