Star Wars Toys Reenact Classic Pictures

Clone Troopers tackle da Vinci, Muhammad Ali, Abbey Road, and more.

The Clone Troopers in Star Wars are remarkably multitalented guys. They've defeated legions of battle droids, carried out covert operations, installed a galactic despot, and raised the flag at Iwo Jima. If the last one doesn't sound familiar to you, it's probably because you haven't seen the "Cloned Photos" project by photographer Dave Egers. In his ongoing project, Egers has recreated some of the most iconic imagery in human history - from The Vitruvian Man to Abbey Road - and replaced the characters in question with Jango Fett's genetic progeny.

The photos generally speak for themselves, although the sheer breadth of Egers's source material is impressive. The Clone Troopers take part in an early zoopraxiscope [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoopraxiscope] feature, a boxing match, and a victorious kiss, among other things. Even Chewbacca gets a cameo as a still from a famous Bigfoot film clip.

Egers, whose bread and butter on Flickr is replacing popular photos and posters (365 Days of Clones [http://www.flickr.com/photos/egerbver] during 2011. To this end, he photographed a number of Clone Troopers posing, reenacting historical events, or just helping out around the house. After its completion, "Cloned Photos" came into being.

Whether Egers is a mad genius or simply mad will be the subject of internet debate for some time to come, but if nothing else, it's interesting to see just how many things a creative person can do with a few Star Wars figures, a camera, and some editing software. Even if they did almost singlehandedly wipe out the Jedi order, you've got to admit that the Clone Troopers are not ones to shy away from trying something new.

While this is super sweet, I don't like it as a photographer. It's not on par with that lady who was selling photographs of Ansel Adams' photographs but this just seems... I dunno.
I'd be perfectly fine with some fan doing this but it doesn't fit for a professional photographer to do so.
What the hell do you call it anyways when someone plagiarizes the the composition of a photo?

Number 6 isn't quite on par with the rest though... There's some photoshopping errors in the asphalt they're walking on. And someone must have forgotten the difference between shadows and reflections. Plus the clones are way too crisp and clear against the very blurry and low quality background.

Funny, when Star Wars toys are used to re-enact the first picture it's "fucking awesome", yet when ponies do it it's "fucking offensive and it makes me want to kill all bronies". Hmm... that's life I guess. [sub]Please don't kill me, I was making an observation[/sub]

Other than that, those photos are damn cool. The Abbey Road one does look like a bad photoshop though, the others are really good.

4) Even the clones are happy over the end of DADT... or does this count as incest or masturbation?

These have a horrible lack of creativity. I suppose the picture quality is good but that doesn't matter when the formula is "take over-parodied pictures and replace with clone troopers". Couldn't even be bothered to replace the horse with a tonton or speeder bike or something? I mean, if you're going to take the time to do something like this, at least make it original. And especially not worthy as a "news" post... but here I am commenting on it so I suppose the joke is on me.

I am sorry if this comes of as "on a high horse" or something, but i also think these are lazy work.

It simply looks like he has no creati9e ideas of himself (wich could be wrong if there is other different works of photography he does).

It is shit honestly.

At least they made me interested in finding the originals.

Huh, I was thinking the same thing, you cant really have it both ways. Then again the people praising this are probably different to the people condemning the other

Oh look, yet another photographer decides to do a 'Star Wars figures with a twist' gallery. Anyone else as sick to death of these as I am?

DO SOMETHING ORIGINAL!
