Of Orcs and Men Gets a Proper Home

Of Orcs and Men has a fresh website and a brand-new trailer.

I talked briefly about this last year [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109715-Of-Orcs-and-Men-Screens-Hit-the-Tubes] but for those who missed it, Of Orcs and Men is a fantasy RPG with a twist. The Empire of Man is waging a campaign of extermination and slavery against the green-skinned peoples of the South - orcs and goblins - and while decades of war have resulted in a certain unpleasant stability, a looming alliance between the Empire and the dwarves and elves threatens to upend that delicate balance. The only solution? Send the biggest, meanest orc of them all on a suicide mission to kill the Emperor before it can happen.

Of Orcs and Men looks like a pretty action-heavy RPG, which I suppose is about what you'd expect when your lead character is basically the Hulk with melee weapons. But stealth promises to be a big part of the action as well thanks to the presence of Styx, a uniquely talented goblin who's everything that Arkail, the orc, is not: A silent, deadly master assassin, who can go places and do things that an orc never could.

The new trailer provides a more detailed look at the story but not much insight into how the game is actually played, and given that neither of the developers making the game, Spiders [http://www.cyanide-studio.com/.], have any major mainstream successes under their belts, there's some room for doubt about how this thing will actually go. But I dig the concept so much that I can't help but be optimistic.

Of Orcs and Men is slated to come out in September for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. To learn more about the game, check out the spiffy new site at oforcsandmen.com [http://www.oforcsandmen.com/index.php].

Looks alright, I guess. Might get it bargain bin price if it gets good reception.

Gameplay is the issue. The idea is great and I dig everything I've seen about it so far, but they haven't shown off anything about how the game will actually be played. It's a concern.

All the big orc dude ever wanted to do was pet the rabbits. but noooo! now he has to go one some big suicide mission. Hopefully there's rabbits to pet on the way.

Indeed. I find the story to be quite interesting, I just hope the gameplay is up to snuff.

Let's make it orky!

I love playing as orcs. Often, nothing is more fun than playing as a big, green, badass who likes nothing more than to smash things.

I am very disappointed that this game is not a retelling of Of Mice And Men but with orcs. I have no idea how that would work, but it would be awesome.

I'll settle for a retelling of the original poem, but with "Orcs" instead of "Mice".

Well, Focus and Cyanide made Blood Bowl: the Videogame, so I think they can deliver.
I considered Blood Bowl: The Video Game to be a wreck... staying WAY too close to the tabletop mechanics, when it should have gone with something more like the old Blitz football series, but with the Warhammer races for the teams.

Whereas I love it precisely because of how faithfully it represented the tabletop mechanics. But then again, I own three Blood Bowl teams (not counting the two in the game box), two of which I converted myself. So there's that.

I would love it if they got a pile of six year old girls to do all the orc voices, that would just be a whole other layer of hilarity, although it would ruin any chance of them telling a serious story, totally worth it though.

Isn't that what Blizzard did with Warcraft II?
